Damn. He had a hell of a life and I enjoyed watching his IG posts the last few years as he’d stay in shape on the road.

Was it announced he was sick?  I didn’t see anything. Must have been fast.

His family said he was diagnosed with cancer in July just a few weeks before the 60th anniversary shows at Golden Gate Park.  

It was assumed something was going on as he hadn’t played any shows since or scheduled any for the new year.  I don’t think anyone outside his circle saw this coming .

I just figured the old guys needed a break and now I’m mad I passed up on seeing them at the Sphere. Got to see him 3 times though so there is that, including kind of an intimate setting at the Fillmore a few years ago.

For as long ago as Bob Weir was famous and as entrenched a name as his has been in rock culture ever since, he was still under 80 years old when he died. This is borderline amazing to me.

I’ll throw in Steve Winwood as a comp for that kind of thing. His first #1 hit was 60 years ago. I know you and I have discussed him before. (Came up on a FB memory a few days ago).

Winwood was 15 in 1963 when he was a founding member of  Spencer Davis group.

That’s what threw me off. Like 10 years ago I stumbled upon a concert of his on AXS TV. “Man he looks good…”. I looked up his age and realized he as only in his 60s and was very young when he and his brother were in tha band.  He’s so talented.
