For similar reasons I just watched the segment of the Paris Olympics opening where the heavy metal guys are playing while a bunch of Marie Antoniettes are standing without their heads and a bunch of very gay-coded people are flinging around on poles and an opera singer rides up in a ship.   If it pisses off the goobers who voted for Trump who think their idea of Kulture is ascendant...so much the better.

Not a criticism of you at all, but I might have posted this in Media Meltdown, since that's what the real issue is here, and not just for Trump himself, but for the entire MAGA elite and all the red hat lemmings.

Counterpoint: Obviously the media, to the extent they fail to contextualize reality, is an issue.

But he's the President of the United States. And Presidents, who all have access to the best intelligence in the world (at least for the time being anyway) should not be watching TV news coverage to learn what's going on in the country they govern.

So yeah, it's more of a "him" issue than a media issue Imo

Not sure. The big white building there looks like the old Wrigley Building. Which would put it near Michigan and Wacker.

It’s been way too long since I’ve been in that area. My first job in Chicago was on the other side of the bridge. The office was a closet in what we called the Paul Harvey building

He is the leader of that cabal, that’s for sure, so he is one of them. And they all get their news and views and cues from the same RWM ecosystem, and assiduously avoid everything else. It’s all part of the same parcel.

It could be said that another complicating factor, of course, is that as the emperor with the invisible clothes, no one dares correct him or tell him what the real situation is, as with the Portland thing. It could also be said that everyone around him also can’t know what the real situation is, because they are all also plugged in to the same media ecosystem exclusively. It’s a self-reinforcing ghetto of lack of real world knowledge.

Spoke with my son yesterday.  He's lived in Portland for almost 10 years and he says that protest energy has been pretty low over the past year or so.  The ICE protesters are just a handful of folks.   He said the felling there is it will most likely be National Guard folks picking up trash.

Having said that insofar as he's been historically pretty engaged with social and political things, I was concerned and  told him that he needs stay away.  Really HATED telling him that, because I support peaceful protest.  But, I guess I'm really cautious  when it comes to my own kids, even though he's a grown ass adult.  It concerns me though that he's a Black man and could also be targeted as a suspected immigrant.
