Michigan Football 2025: Rebuilding an offense, hoping our defense remains solid

If ND gets into the playoffs, it would be interesting to see a rematch of last year.  By most standards, this is a better ND team than last year, except for kicker.  Once Carr got his feet under him, he is considerably more of a threat than Leonard was, their receivers are better, their running game is just as strong, and their defense got healthy and learned the new system and is back to being on par with anyone besides OSU and maybe Texas Tech.

Carr deff made the right choice going to ND over Michigan. Coaching matters and as we see at Michigan that is truely lacking.

It's been a week and Wink is still around. Are they keeping him?

Its weird.  I had heard a rumor about the Oklahoma DC but they are in the CFB so they can't announce anything yet.

Michigan hired Kerry Coombs to replace JB Brown. Coombs was the DC at Ohio State when Hassan Haskins was getting at least 5 yards every time he touched the ball in 2021 win.

I remember on that last drive when Michigan handed it off to Haskins like 8 straight times until they scored again, Coombs had 2 deep safeties the entire time. He was replaced after that year. In 2022 they went to 0 high most of the time to stop the run and gave up like 5 plays of over 50 yards LOL.

Hopefully he can coach special teams better.

The rumor provider provided more rumors:  Morgan to NFL if Jesse Minter gets an NFL job.  Boo.

Coombs is here to coach DBs while Morgan calls plays in the bowl game.

WMU or Oklahoma coaches to be our DC (those are the two in consideration)

Wink pushed out gracefully after bowl game...but Morgan calling plays for bowl game.

sam webb seemed very non-commital about them firing wink.

That might be saying something. Firings are probably not something he likes to speculate about, get it wrong and he could burn some contacts.

Nothing will change all that much as long as Sherrone is the HC.   He’s a placeholder and not the longterm solution.  The sooner they cut bait and move forward, they can seriously start competing for championships again.

Who would they have replaced him with this cycle? They were never bringing in Kelly, Kiffin, or Franklin. Maybe seeing if unproven Hartline would defect instead of going to UCF? Risky. Or if Minter would take a college job? He’d probably say no, he’s on the shortlist for an NFL job… On the flip side, who would you hope to replace Moore with next cycle?

I’m not convinced Moore is a good coach, but he’s getting it done in recruiting right now, and hiring a worse coach can set the program back a decade (not to mention tens of millions in buyouts that is better spent on 5* players). Jim Harbaugh was a once-in-a-lifetime no-brainer hire who probably could have had his pick of NFL jobs if he wanted one. And before Jim, Michigan royally screwed it up twice. Moore is better than either Hoke or Rich Rod.

The other thing we have to keep in mind that you still have interim management in A^2. A decision like a big bucks FB coach seems less likely while an interim is sitting in the President's chair.

The game has changed and the head coach doesn’t drive recruiting anymore.  It’s all NIL and General Manager and Front Office staff.   These are the key drivers now in recruiting.   Wink could be head coach and it they would still pull a huge class.

Nick Saban would be the first call and he would say no.   Minter or Georgia DC Glenn Schumann would be my top choices.  Jedd Fisch would be next.

brady hoke and rich rod both knocked it out of the park for their first two full recruiting classes.

i'm not sold on moore at all.  we'll see.  but the first african-american head coach is not going to be fired by the first african-american AD until things get really bad.  like juwan howard bad.

in fact, juwan might be a good comp to moore: brought in when no one else was available because the timing was off.  placeholder until a better candidate could be found.

He’d be the perfect coach for Underwood.

He’s got nothing at UW.  The cupboard was completely bare after DeBoer.  I figured they were going to be in the Purdue/Maryland cellar.  He’s got them at .500 after 2 seasons.

Cignetti. And before you mention that contract he signed with Indiana, we all know that college football contracts aren't worth the paper they are printed on. Oh, Indiana is paying you $11 million, he's $15 million from Larry Ellison to come live in Ann Arbor.
