Yup. I was not impressed with Roberts or his staff. I thought pitching to Ohtani the last time just to walk him after the 4/5 IBBs was stupid too. And who knows, the extra energy to throw those 4 wasted pitches may have been the difference for Little against Freeman.

Schneider says the Jays plan on continuing to  intentionally walk Ohtani the rest of the series.

Should Dave Roberts take the base runner at the top of the order or does he move Ohtani back to 3 or 4 and hope create some very difficult situations for the Jays.

With Mookie and Freddie hitting behind Shohei, I think walking Ohtani already creates a difficult situation that Schenider calculated to be less onerous than taking a chance on getting him out, which topline stats say the Jays have at least a 57% chance of accomplishing.

Did the stands begin to empty when it got into extras?

I know Dodgers fans take a lot of heat for leaving before a game is over - or at least they used to - but the traffic is really bad so I cut them some slack for this.

I went to a Reds-Dodgers playoff game back on October 1. It was a ****storm trying to get out of that parking lot, and we left before maybe 75% of the crowd. They funnel everyone coming from a dozen or more directions into three lanes to pick up the freeway of your choice, and you have to be aggressive in staking your slot in the scrum. I'm surprised I saw no fender benders along the way, and really, if you do bump somebody, you probably shouldn't get out to examine the damage because people behind you would probably get out of their own cars and firmly persuade you to get back in your car and keep going.

I guess it all made sense in 1960.

There was this at bat against Kershaw in the 12th and Heineman struck out on a full count pitch with runners on 2nd and 3rd and 2 out.

She makes a good point. Can you imagine if Kershaw had let the runner get on, losing the lead in the process, had to pitch to at least two more hitters, and stood to lose the game? I mean, this was a huge gamble with his legacy.

I doubt we see him again except in the circumstance Epstein suggests.

Even if he'd been safe, the Dodgers would have walked Vlad with first base open.

Still, even with Kiner-Falefa not doing much with the bat I'd take his chances over the quality of that send.

I agree. I'm just pushing back on the idea that Vlad was robbed of an at bat had he held at third. He was never going to get an at bat either way—just a plate appearance at most.

I just watched the Freddie Freeman at bat and in defense of Dodgers fans, there was hardly an empty seat in that ballpark and those fans stuck it out to the very end. Good for them. They represented themselves well.

The Dodgers’ radio of call of this was interesting. It’s their home park but off the bat Stephen Nelson didn’t sound like he expected it to go out. Then he gets a bit more excited as Varsho drifts back and then holy crap it’s gone. A couple of balls that looked like they could dangerous earlier in extra innings went for long outs, like one by Will Smith.

That game brought back horrible flashbacks to the Tigers long extra inning loss. Eerie similar. Lack of offense for long periods.

I hope no one took small children to that 18 inning game last night. Good Lord, that would’ve been torture for the kids and what the kids did to the parents by squirming and being bored.

That game being in LA was at least somewhat normal for the locals, time wise  Imagine leaving a WS game at 3 am. Getting home at 4.  Then you might have tickets again tonight.

I wonder how many Dodger fans left the game in the 16th last night, to beat the traffic.

When I watched the Freddie Freeman in the 18th it looked like almost nobody had left.

Six runs? I must be dreaming, but somehow that seems familiar…

Except it became unfamiliar later in the year!
