The Mudhens play in 5/3 field.

If Det is going to be 5/3 they need to rename Toledo 4/5, Erie 3/5, WM 2/5, Lakeland 1/5.

Why is it Tiger Stadium when the Detroit Tigers played there?  Should it have been Tigers Stadium?  Why do we singularize the plural?  Same with Yankee Stadium for the New York Yankees.  Would the Colorado Rockies play in "Rockie Stadium"?

Someone should'of thought about that.

In my 65 years as a fan, I have never once referred to myself as a “Tigers“ fan. I’m a Tiger fan. Usage trumps grammatical persnicketyism.

This is the way Englush is always werked.

Lost in all of our hullaballoo about the playoff stretch is the fact the that Colorado Rockies finished the season at 43-119.

Detroit Tigers had a total home attendance of 2,413,442 (29,796 per game), while the Colorado Rockies had a total home attendance of 2,404,613 (29,687 per game) so we are a fraction better than the Rockies

I think Skubal will be open to a return.  And I believe the Tigers will make a reasonable effort to retain him.  However, I think what he’ll command and get will be unreasonable  and he’ll ultimately be overpaid by someone else.

It won’t be because the Tigers are cheap (always a lazy, false narrative) or because Skubal was greedy. Just business.

I do agree on the first account.

I agree Chis Ilitch is not cheap per say. I just think he does not personally get too involved like his father did. Actually, I wish he would say 'lets get so & so' and give SHarris a push if he does not already.

Regardless of what happens in tomorrow's game against Seattle, there is a 'core' already there that is 27 and under years of age ex Greene, Tork, Keith, Dingler, Meadows, Olsen, Jobe, Melton, etc. and a few a bit older Mize, Skubal, Carp, etc. No need to 'rebuild' here. Simply add a few quality MLB types that are productive 'now'. Maybe even keep or make offers (QO) to Torres, Flaherty (who sought Detroit themselves after they did not receive the long term deals they initially wanted) and add 2 players ex Bregman or Bichette, and another. Then with that add the next young farm group slowly over a couple years ex Clark, McGonigle, Brecino, Rainey, etc.

SHarris needs to step up. To stop focusing on aging retread projects (Meada, Boyd, Cobb, Morton) and/or AAAA type middle INFs (Kennedy, Sogard, Maton, Rizzo, etc.) who are fine only AFTER/in conjunction with actual quality type player additions. He should stop talking about a 'core' (we have that after his initial public renderings about such a couple years ago) and stop using the 'kick the can' down the road mentality for the next farm group.

Harris needs to add quality for Now and the Future. IMHO, he has not shown this GM bility. The knack to negotiate a trade for that type of player or a FA signing. He did not do it last off season after a playoff run nor this past trade deadline (exception Finnegan, 1 in 5 players he acquired and I was mildly surprised he did make attempts with other organizations). Harris had a team with the best record in baseball, a very good manager and a real chance to win. No excuses.

With all said, I will say again, Harris has done well with many other aspects: player development, facility upgrades, additions to MiLB staffing, scouting, overseas facilities, nutrition and physiology/recovery awareness, etc. Maybe he should be more 'the head of player development' or bring in a competent GM to work deals. Who is Jeff Greenberg? does he work for Jimmy John's field? ; )

Go Tigs!

The Tigers took on a ton of salary at the deadline. They were cheap from a prospect standpoint, but still added about $13M, which is pretty significant when you consider that is 1/3 of the season. You can rag on that deadline for a lot of things, but cheap from a payroll standpoint isn't one.

Exactly, I do not think 'cheap' is any party of the equation here as well. Hence the lengthy response previously.

The original name for the old ballpark was Navin Field, after the owner in 1912. It became Briggs Stadium in 1938 when Walter Briggs bought the team. Tiger Stadium came to be in 1961 with ownership change, John Fetzer became sole owner.

If we continued that trend.....

This has been Harris biggest weakness. Short term deals are good in theory, but Harris has spent decent money on cahna, maeda, Cobb, Morton, paddock, brebbia, kahnle, Torres, and flaherty. It’s not being cheap, but i would argue his allocation of scarce resources has been god awful.

Rockies are a mountain chain.  It's the whole group of mountains and is a collective noun.

I’m glad about Torres. He has been pretty good. One year might’ve been his preference too. I don’t know.

I thought Torres worked out well too.  Right side of the infield worked out much better than anticipated.  Should be noted though that Torres was not among the silver slugger nominees.  That second half injury probably the cause.  Really would like to see him get a QO that he refuses.

Riley Greene and McKinstry up for silver slugger awards.

Neither deserve it.

If it was just left fielders, you could make a case for Greene because there is no clear cut chloice.  Do they break it down by position or just take the top three outfielders?  I see McKinstry is listed among utility players.  With so many multi-position guys now, I'm not sure how they define that.  I don't really care about Silver Sluggers anyway.  It has an "everybody gets a trophy" vibe to it.  Just pick the best hitter and leave it at that.

I believe it’s just “outfield”

Well, they are from an “everybody gets a trophy” generation, right?

That's why we don't use stuff like the "like" link here.

What's the "like" link? I just googled the term and I'm coming up dry for anything close to what you probably mean.

It's something we can't talk about here.
