Should have been an error and FC, but no mental error has been ruled a scored error in the last 3, maybe 4 decades. Unless you don't drop a ball or throw it away, the scorer has no beef with you in today's game. And in the OF even a drop is not certain to be an error if the player had to run more than a few steps. They really should stop scoring them at all. They are supposed to represent outs that should have been made, whether the ball is touched or not should not be relevant, but that is how is has evolved. I guess the scorers didn't want to take any heat from the players on anything that was too obvious to argue.

The problem whenever Skubal pitches is he's just too good. Other teams focus in on beating the best pitcher on the planet. I mean, Mize handled this team last night.

True. And it's very unfair to a pitchers ERA. Make it a "team error." And the runs unearned.

Even Cy Young would have trouble if his team give the other side 4 outs. It's hard enough to get 3 outs without giving anything up.

It's a few more weeks before he can get it tested again. If it's fine, then he will need time to build up his arm strength.

I got distracted from the game just now but when I was watching it and Sweeney came up the MLB radio was only one pitch behind at bat. Frequently, it’s a couple pitches behind.
