So Casey couldn't throw enough strikes again tonight; Eflin didn't make many mistakes but the Tigers took almost every one he did make; and Colt was screwed by the wall, as that ball easily would have cleared an 8 ft fence 20 ft deeper. On the plus side, Colt made a good throw from 3rd to 1st and his arm didn't fall off. Also this evening may get Beau back to Toledo.

We don't exactly have a team of Rickey Henderson's but I would like us to try to steal a little more often if its somebody with decent speed like a Javy, Mckinstry, Meadows, Perez or Greene. The staying put and taking the extra base off hits works when you are you know actually getting hits but with the offense being in a funk now maybe we try to change that thought process and push things a little bit.

I’m thinking that perhaps Jake Rogers didn’t “drop the ball” on coming up with a new home run celebration. Perhaps he thought the whole idea was bogus and he didn’t want do it. So this is just one more reason to like Jake, aside from the mustache.

That's why I wondered if they would bring Guenther back up since Hurter was off the table. They decided in this case the roster move wasn't worth it - and maybe it wasn't - I don't have a count on how many times he's already made the bounce.

Good for him. Even given the teams were bad, It was ridiculous the way the Tigers broadcasters tried to hype him into being a good player, but that wasn't his fault. He was just a solid AAAA guy.

Plus how often you gonna need a LOOGY for the exact situation of two outs, RISP, close and late, good left-handed hitter up? Maybe half a dozen times a year, a dozen tops? Can you keep a guy on the roster all year basically just for that?

To be fair to the broadcasters "Hittin" Harold might as well have been Tony Gwynn compared to the rest of the scrubs that were in that lineup.

Yep on top of that it would also have to be a good lefty that has noticeable platoon splits as well or else you likely will be better off putting in a better righty.

Doesn’t have to be a LOOGY, we just need another good lefty out of the pen—especially if Hurter and Holton are going to be openers on occasion.

Also, Victor Reyes is The Man on the Lotte Giants team in Korea.

I wonder if Victor Reyes ever found that untapped power that we were promised for seemingly a handful of offseasons by Tigers writers?

Wow, he really is. And he’s an iron man. Last year he played 144 games which I presume is pretty much the full season.

No. OTOH, but that's a slightly different question than "would the Tigers always prefer to have two LH relievers at the beginning of most games" the answer to which I think is "yes". Hinch made his bed by letting Hurter pitch deeper than was probably the original plan - and maybe limiting SGL's outing was the difference that meant a win Tuesday game. It's a question of a win in hand vs marginally better BP options in the bush. If I had a proclivity to bet on anything around this team (I don't) it would that they pick up another a lefty reliever at/before the deadline. 

The other possibility that may be in play is stretching Hurter out to join the rotation in place of Montero - in which case the need for another lefty reliever becomes even greater.

He hit 15 home runs in 600+ plate appearances last year out of 202 hits in Korea so I think the answer would be no.

Gibby wouldn't go along. I remember Shep hyping Castro up, and Gibby intervening and saying an everyday player should have a .750+ ops. Popped Shep's bubble

it is funny how some guys have bodies that just won't do stuff that is normal for "everyone else". Daniel Norris could not throw a baseball off a mound with a normal follow through - just couldn't do it. Otherwise apparently a great athlete, could not master basic pitching mechanics. Victor Reyes could not lead with his hips when he swung a baseball bat - just could never do it, so a big strong guy was pretty much a singles hitter.

fair point. Being pretty much the senior guy in the clubhouse he was probably the guy who could best end it without being questioned.

Thanks - it happens. Minnesota state DHS got cut 300 million. Many programs will be getting cut. It does suck. Bit I have been in my field 36 years. Already have 2 potential options.

Best of luck. My memory of MN was that social services were strong at every level, I hope the cities and counties will try to pick up some of the slack.
