I’ve gone to demolition derbys but it’s not something I brag about and need to relive. Come to think of it, though, a demolition derby is better than the “swing off.” There’s a brute honesty to a demolition derby. It doesn’t pretend to be more than it is. They want to talk it up because they plan to keep using it. Next, they'll say everyone loves it. Pure gaslighting. Repeat a lie long and loud enough and it becomes a truth. 1 Quote
sagnam Posted July 16 Posted July 16 For an all star game, who cares? It’s all about fun. Do crazy crap, it’s fine. This game doesn’t matter at all. Quote

RatkoVarda Posted July 25 Author Posted July 25 hopefully Suarez can be had for a comparable price Quote

tiger2022 Posted July 25 Posted July 25 (edited) Naylor would have been a great pickup for the Tigers. They didn't give up anything of significance. Edited July 25 by tiger2022 Quote

Too bad we ourselves couldn't have sold into markets like this. Quote

I like Naylor, but I don't know if he's much of an upgrade over a Keith/Jones platoon. I guess you know what your getting with Naylor, but based on what they are currently doing, a Keith/Jones platoon is pretty good. Quote

I don't think we're in the market for a full-time DH. We use the slot to keep guys in the batting order while giving them a break from the field. A full-time DH would have those guys totally benched instead. We've used seven different guys at DH just this month. As it is, the Tigers are 11th in WAR at DH, so it's not as though it's a black hole we need to fill. 1 Quote

kdog Posted July 25 Posted July 25 Tigers execs got their message out to a few of the beat writers. They are going to be reasonably aggresive with the bullpen; But they aren't going to trade for rentals(sustainability) and are relying on Urquidy(sp) types to come back later in the season. I don't mind it. The offense has to fix itself. I see guys like Javy and Zach regressing to their levels. Greene, Keith, Meados, and Vierling should not be this bad. 1 Quote
tiger2022 Posted July 25 Posted July 25 It doesn't matter now because Naylor isn't available. For bargain basement guys off the bench, maybe McCutchen from the Pirates. I doubt if you'd need to give up much for them. Quote
kdog Posted July 25 Posted July 25 Looking for a more reliable RH platoon guy over Jones and Ibanez. Quote

I'm starting to question the need for bullpen arms. Averaging one run a game won't win many games. When was the last time this Tiger team had an inning with multiple hits and runs in an inning? No rallies, just waiting for a player to hit a home run. Quote

They need swing and miss on the back end no matter what. The internal solutions don't have it. You can't solve foundational offensive issues with one move. Quote

This stretch right now is a combination of nothing working. But we've seen the offense work. The BP really hasn't been up to task for a much longer stretch. Part of the offensive game has been aggressive base running. Can't do that with minimal base runners. I'd wager the OBP has been amongst the bottom of the barrel the last couple of weeks. Quote

Not scoring any runs makes the bullpen needs meaningless. It was an obvious need earlier in the season but our recent offensive struggles is the reason we're losing. Not even giving our weak bullpen a chance to blow leads. 😆 Quote
