I had a similar experience (although mine was not in person) when I heard Marvin Gaye's rendition before the 1983 nba all-star game. It rocked my world and remains my favorite rendition, along with Jose's I loved Marvin. His voice made you feel like you knew him, like you were on a first name basis with him, and it’s tragic how he died. It makes me sad. Quote
lordstanley Posted January 7 Posted January 7 Isn't it a bit strange that Benetti and NBC is a story already? We've always had speculation in the press and an online about potential free agent signings. Trades. Manager firings and hirings. Even rumours about broadcast rights deals. But speculation of who might get a PBP gig? Is Benetti's PR man working overtime or get paid by each X/Twitter mention? Quote

No. It wouldn't affect his Tigers gig, and it makes perfect sense that NBC would be trying to lock up its announcers for the new deal. Quote
Shelton Posted January 7 Posted January 7 I wonder what else Benetti would do under this potential NBC deal. Would he end up in a Tirico-light gig, working the Sunday night games and occasional other NBC-related broadcasts? They have NBA now. I assume this would mean the end of his NFL and college football duties that he did for Fox. Seems like the NBC stuff might fit better and have less overlap than what he currently has via FOX. Quote

CMRivdogs Posted January 7 Posted January 7 Gotta give credit to this gentleman. Soprano sax is not easy to play especially if you're 104 Quote
IdahoBert Posted January 8 Posted January 8 Watching Jason announce Arizona v Kansas State in Big 12 play on FS1. Basketball is a pretty fast-paced game and there’s not much time for Jason‘s witticisms to take flight. He can do it all. I love his voice and after listening to him on Tigers broadcasts, whenever I hear him anywhere it feels like I’m home. It’s the Wildcats versus the Wildcats. I’m really happy for this man’s success. He’s a joy to listen to. “Bear Down“ Arizona, as we Tucsonans say. And even though I haven’t lived there in 38 years that’s where my formative development took place. A part of me still considers it home. Quote

Dirks doesn’t seem to be off the rails with Dickerson. Likewise, Petry isn’t completely stoic with Benetti, but keeps himself more inbounds than Dirks. Quote
Tenacious D Posted January 12 Posted January 12 (edited) Dirks and Dickerson are the best combination. Dirks and Benetti might be the worst. Edited January 12 by Tenacious D 3 Quote
CMRivdogs Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago I wasn't in Detroit for the Rizzs/Rathbun era. I know Bob from his work in Va and the Atlanta Hawks. A case of two guys being in the wrong place at the wrong time. They've both had good careers since Quote
oblong Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago Years ago, early to mid 2000’s, I had a free preview of whatever the MLB package was called at the time, for a week. I had a game on while I was doing something in another room so I didn’t know who was playing. But after awhile I told myself “I like.this announcer”. It was Seattle and Rick. He was definitely a good announcer. Don’t need to rehash who and what but he did ok. Quote
Tiger337 Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago One problem with them is that they both sounded alike. I couldn't tell which one was talking. So, I imagine they would do better separately. 1 1 Quote
CMRivdogs Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago One of the things I've read is that Rathbun's wife had a tough time adjusting to the area and what was floating around at the time. I worked with MB for a short time in Virginia and can understand why it wasn't a fit (including the distance from her family). Georgia is a better fit for them, MB has been running a successful dog rescue program for several years now. Quote

I guess it must be like the sense of taste - they say some people can taste all kinds of things others can't, or raising one eyebrow, but some people just have zero sense of detail/texture for how things sound. Get a couple of them in the right executive positions and you get dumb audio decisions like pairing Rizz and Rathbun. They were doomed from the get go. Edited 17 hours ago by gehringer_2 Quote
