GalagaGuy Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago Twinkies get a lead off double in the 9th and can't score the tying run. Quote

If the Tigers are playing the Twins or Angels, back to back outings probably work out better. Yea, Philly is really good. But Vest wasn't even effective the 1st time against them. Some pitchers aren't cut out to be setup up men. He was a really good 9th inning pitcher. Earlier? He's struggled. Quote

casimir Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago Just kind of wonder how things play out if the Perez caught stealing was properly overturned. Quote
lordstanley Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago Astros lose to Boston. Astros are again 2.5 games behind the Tigers, just as they were at the All Star Break. Quote

That was then, this is now. 😅😅 But think about how hard it must be following Skubal. The hitters actually have a chance to hit the ball. And they did... Quote

Doesn’t matter what inning. Vest has better numbers in the 8th than he does in the 9th in his career. So I guess by that analysis, he shouldn’t be a closer. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.fcgi?id=vestwi01&t=p&year=Career Edited 23 hours ago by casimir Quote

IdahoBert Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago Just as an aside, tomorrow night’s game will be on ESPN and I’m just wondering how much time they’ll be talking about how excited they are for the NFL preseason during the baseball broadcast. Quote

I tried to catch some of the Erie game and it was the Guardians team's broadcast. They spent an entire inning - not half inning - but full inning with a promotion of a stadium food dish. Camera spent half the time on the announcers eating. Don't know how many times I heard a phrase "The Guardian's way of doing it." Between the homerism and the waffles I couldn't watch another inning. SeattleMike Posted 21 hours ago Posted 21 hours ago Today’s starting lineup (wRC+ thru today): Keith: 112 Torres: 129 Carpenter: 123 Greene: 128 Torkelson: 119 Perez: 119 McKinstry: 120 Dingler: 107 Baez: 102 Not bad 2 2 Quote

I was trying to watch the Erie game yesterday as well and the same stuff was going on. It was like the game was incidental to the chitchat they enjoyed more. Quote

You have this cockamamie theory that Vest can only pitch the 9th inning because that’s what he does. The Tigers just acquired Finnegan who also pitches basically only the 9th. How do you handle that? Should Harris have looked for 8th inning only pitchers, 7th inning only pitchers? Quote

His last 4 outings? He's given up multiple hits in early innings of work. His 9th inning appearance was fine. He may not have given up any runs Friday but both his inherited runners scored. But again, it really is the fact he's just struggling right now, no matter which inning. Kinda hard to trust. And I still remember Todd Jones in non-save situations. For some odd reason, he always struggled if the game wasn't on the line. It never made sense. Quote
