Tenacious D Posted September 15 Posted September 15 How we feeling? Thank God there isn’t another month left, because we’re not trending in the right direction. 2-4 against Cleveland should get it done. Quote
IdahoBert Posted September 15 Posted September 15 I’ll be totally fine if the Tigers go 7–5 in the last dozen games. But I’ll take whatever I get and I won’t throw a fit. Quote
papalawrence Posted September 15 Posted September 15 They're 5 games UNDER. 500 over the past 2 months. But they'll turn it on the final 2 weeks Quote
chasfh Posted September 15 Author Posted September 15 (edited) After the 35-5 start, the 1984 team went 22-23. Then they went 11-1. Then they followed that up by going 20-21. So, two different stretches lasting more than 40 games of the most magic team of all our lifetimes playing sub-.500 ball. It’s what all baseball teams do: they have long funks during long seasons, and then they win rings by getting hot at just the right time. Enjoy the ride! Edited September 15 by chasfh 5 1 Quote
casimir Posted September 16 Posted September 16 I can’t believe it’s mid September. Last week I had a monthly meeting with a higher up. He asked if I watched any football over the weekend. I reminded him it’s still baseball season. I think he understand me more now. 5 Quote
lordstanley Posted September 18 Posted September 18 I miss the days when our biggest worry was whether the magic number included tiebreakers or was based on outright clinches only. 1 Quote

papalawrence Posted September 20 Posted September 20 Detroit is now tied with Seattle, who has the tie breaker. It's all going down the drain quickly Quote
Tigermojo Posted September 20 Posted September 20 If Detroit doesn't sweep the Guardians, they lose the tie breaker against them. Quote
papalawrence Posted September 21 Posted September 21 Cleveland up 6-0 in the nightcap today. Lead will be 1 game. Final 3 on the road vs Boston, where they'll likely need to win 2 or 3. At this point it's not only possible that the Tigers miss the playoffs, I'd say it's probable. Quote

lordstanley Posted September 21 Posted September 21 On the morning of September 11 the Tigers had a 9.5 game lead with 16 games to play. By the evening of September 20, the Tigers have a 1.0 game lead with 7 games to play. By my count, starting Thursday September 11 through the end of today, there will have been 16 games that have impacted the division race and 15 have gone against the Tigers. Only exception is in bold. Tigermojo Posted September 21 Posted September 21 September has been a disappointment but we are score board watching in the last week of the season. I just want you all to know that no matter what, I still hate Kwan. 1 Quote
chasfh Posted September 21 Author Posted September 21 Twins surprise the roaring Guardians with a 6-2 defeat, and now our magic number has dropped to: Quote
lordstanley Posted September 24 Posted September 24 (edited) While the Tigers’ magic number to win the division is stuck at 6, the magic number to clinch a playoff spot has dropped to 4 with Houston’s loss tonight to Athletics. Houston has to play 2 games better than the Tigers over the final 5 games. The Tigers could actually lose out (possible) and still make the playoffs if Houston goes no better than 1-4 in remaining road games vs Athletics and the Angels. oblong Posted September 24 Posted September 24 if the Tigers end up with a playoff spot... do they even celebrate? I bet not. Quote
