I would be fine with adding Sudfield to the practice squad. Your practice squad QB should be someone you trust the QB room to break down film. That’s why the Lions always kept Blough on the practice squad.

I am absolutely not getting in a debate over the merits of Nate Sudfeld on an NFL roster.

I predict Hooker lands with the Jets. His ceiling at this point might be Justin Fields, and it’s familiar territory with Glenn and Engstrand.

I predict he lands on the street like every other Hooker.

Hooker will sign with Cleveland... they gotta hit on a QB if they sign everyone, right?

Like to see the look on Watson’s face when they say they got a Hooker and then realize it’s not that one.

I would take Justin fields 100 times over Hooker.

My guess is that this is roster gymnastics and he will re-sign. Veterans like Skipper are not subject to waivers.

He also has a low guarantee. I bet they are doing it to keep an injured player, probably Hassanein, on the roster and will sign Skipper once they place Hassanein on IR.

FWIW Justin Rogers seems to be under the belief that this may have been a Jamarco Jones vs. Dan Skipper decision. Which would stand to reason he may not re-sign.

If that’s the case, I could see him being signed to the practice squad. The Bears also make sense. It probably was telling that Skipper was getting a lot of playing time in preseason.

If they stay healthy, they may be a better team with a worse record. If their defense stays mostly healthy, I see them as a top 5 NFL defense. Even if the offense struggles a little bit, they still be an elite team. 13-4? 12-5? Either way, a playoff team that nobody wants to play. Especially at Ford Field. This may be the season we go all the way, but we're the hunted and not the hunter. Teams no longer circle us as an easy win. It's more like...."We gotta play Detroit." instead of "We get to play Detroit."

I don't think Detroit's defense is anywhere close to the Top 5.  I think it could be in the bottom 10, but I guess we'll see.

This team is going to have to score a lot of points and have long time-consuming drives.   And that is what they are built to do.

Is Hendon Hooker the biggest draft bust in Brad's tenure with the Lions?

Don’t get that at all.

They have the best safety combo in football with Branch and Kerby.  Arnold should be much improved in season 2 and they signed DJ Reed on the other side at corner.   Thats a great defensive backfield.

Jack Campbell could get really good very quickly.  Anzalone is still great and Barnes was coming on big time before getting hurt.   Hutch sounds like he’s back to full strength and that will be huge.  Davenport is legit if he can stay healthy.    Reader and Tyliek in the middle with Lopez backing them up.   Alim will be back sometime in the 2nd half too.

As bad as people think the defense played last year, they were 7th in the NFL in points allowed in the regular season, at 20.1 points per game. This was in spite of giving up 27.8 ppg in the last five weeks. In weeks 1-12, they averaged giving up 16.9 ppg which would have ranked #1 by nearly a full point.

So no, it is not unrealistic to think they will have a top ten defense or even a top five defense. Nor is it unrealistic to expect they will have the top offense and the top defense.

A huge majority of Detroit Lion draft picks have been busts throughout the years. So I don't care if Hooker was a bust in a draft that got us a few all pro players. Brad has built a winning team and totally changed our culture.

He's a third round pick. 90 percent never amount to anything

I think the defense definitely can be a top 10 defense.  I know we were top 7 in points allowed last year with all the injuries although I don't think the defense was a top 20 defense in true sense.  When you have a high scoring efficient offense, the other team doesn't have as much time to score and your field position is constantly bad.  I am not taking away from how good they played with all the injuries (I give so much credit to the coaches and players), I just think points allowed isn't always the best indicator.

I don't think saying their offense could take a step back from last year and the team being better is taking anything away from there offense.  First, they had one of the best offenses ever in the NFL.  If they can play 70-90% of what they did last year, then I think this team will be dramatically better with the improvements on defense.  I really think (obviously not counting injuries) this defense can be a true top 5-10 defense.

With the schedule.  I would go with a 12-5 record and winning the north and be a much better team.  Don't think they have a chance at the bye this year.
