I still want to trade for a key cornerback.

It doesn't even have to be a guy worth a 1st rounder or two.

Just someone who is effective in the Lions scheme...

Oh, and healthy.

I'd rather our season not slide into a downward spiral because we have no secondary left.

Just my 2 cents.

I agree 100%. But....last season we were in desperate need of a quality edge rusher and all we got was a player on his last legs and ready to retire. The Lions will find a body from practice squads to fill in for a few weeks and live with the results.

That's a bit of a revision on Smith.  Smith actually performed very well for us and was one of the highest rated players traded at the deadline.  They actually went out and got the best available player at edge.

No panic trades are needed. We will get a home game going into the bye against a team that is as beat up as we are. McNeil will be back and should help the pass rush immediately. The whole starting secondary will get two more weeks to get healthy and everyone should be back to game shape by mid-November.

The loss to KC could be a blessing in disguise. Right now there is a high likelihood the two teams could meet in the Super Bowl. Would be good to have a rematch at full strength. Also, we all remember how the Lions responded after their last prime time officiating debacle in Dallas. They would be out for revenge, and that is a good place for Dan to be in.

I don’t see the relative benefit of a trade for a DB. If Arnold or Reed or BB or Kerby were done for the year, maybe, but we’ll get them all back.

Even in a best case scenario after a trade where they’re so impactful you say they won you a game you should have lost in their absence, the cost-benefit of going 13-4 instead of 12-5 is just not significant. This isn’t the Tigers where they’re completely devoid of hitting talent. There’s plenty of talent. We will win football games.

Just get healthy before January, that’s all that matters.

Agree completely.  Add in the practice squad signing of Fuller, I think we can weather it until Arnold and Reed get back (barring any major setbacks for either)

Does your opinion stay the same if Baker shreds our secondary this week?

Probably yes.

My understanding is Arnold is back after the bye. Reed back maybe a few weeks later. Picking up someone who likely won’t even be fully up to speed by the time you’re back to full strength screams panic.

Does anyone know when the bet was placed? Like, was it placed after Campbell’s pre-game conference with the officials?

DraftKings posted this before the game had started.  No idea how much earlier the bet came in.

Remember the Lions won the toss and took the ball.  Had KC won they would’ve certainly deferred.  That had to be a pre determined decision that was shared in team meetings.   So, right out the box one of the biggest risks of a 1st TD bet was cleared by knowing they’d get the ball first.

Rather than the Lions leaking it, I wonder if someone in the Lions organization saw it and passed it along.  It seems like something Campbell/Morton may have done out of humor - like out of the group of trick plays they had, they picked that one.

Also, Goff could have  been the first scorer on a sneak or a scramble - not as likely as Mahomes obviously, but more likely than on the play in question.  So it's not necessarily true that the better was expecting him to catch a pass for a TD.  It's more likely the gambler has a problem and was looking for a huge win opportunity.

Professional gamblers aren’t normally putting $5k on any +9000 bet.  It’s a super flyer.  Not a very common bet at all.

They practiced the play during the week and had it in the playbook.  It was going to get used either in that exact situation or a 2pt play.  It wouldn’t have been a secret to anyone in the building.

My belief was and still is that someone in the organization most likely a player or low level staffer leaked it out to someone to bet it.    Yes,  Jamo was my first thought

That wasn’t even the first play call on 4th and Goal. They took a timeout on the first play call because they were about to take a Delay, but the play call was for Goff to play action and roll out.

It was a stupid bet, I don’t think there’s any real likelihood of foul play there with the betting. I think the NFL ops just overstepped their authority and Wrolsted covered everyone’s ass by toeing the company line in the pool report.

While I agree with this...

It wouldn't bother me if Holmes made a move.

He could make no move. A Zadarius Smith move. Or a major move.

Obviously I'm not going to tell him how to do his job... and I'm going to be fine with whatever they decide to do because... well, they seem to know what they are doing.

By the same token, I hope if Holmes trades Ennis Rakestraw and two 1sts (or whatever that package is) for Sauce Gardner that everyone gets behind Brad's move, and Sauce Gardner, and we all end up happy with his trade.

Panic, or otherwise.

Oh, and the 4 straight Super Bowl wins as a result of that trade!!!  😉

I don’t think it is likely either…  but the thing is, it is not out of the question.

Is it more plausible to believe that Park Avenue was so concerned about the integrity of their rulebook regarding a delay of a second that they violated the part of the rulebook saying that call was not reviewable, or that Park Avenue was putting its finger on the scale to benefit certain interests? It is hard to say.

But if the NFL wasn’t putting its finger on the scale, and this was just an honest mistake, they need to come clean and say how the mistake happened and why it won’t happen again. And Sheila/Rod need to demand an explanation.

The NFL really fumbled this one.

This makes the most sense to me.

So on a balance scale:

An investigation turns up that a Detroit Org insider (Jamo or otherwise) knew this was a highly probable scoring play and got word out to a family member or buddy, the better. MAJOR BLACK EYE... on EVERYONE. The League, the Lions, the player, etc./etc./etc.

OR:

The League calls up the officials in the game and tells them: "OVERTURN this NOW!!!"

Which is worse?

I follow the logic, but I'd be amazed if the NFL could get the dots connected fast enough to call for the play to be overturned in real time.

This was simply the case of a high profile standalone game where “the office” saw something that put KC behind and made the call because it was technically correct. The on-field official was put in a bind because now he knows they missed the infraction. Since the next play hasn’t started he has to either 1) ignore that he knows it was a foul by following the rules, or 2) break the rules and use assistance on a play that doesn’t allow assistance. The bet didn’t play a part at all. Bias and opportunity did.

Bigger point to this current conversation, bringing up Jaymo’s name is just reckless and inappropriate. That is how baseless rumors start. Please stop.

What a weird week.

  • Lions get objectively robbed of a touchdown by a violation of NFL rules by NFL officials.
  • In seeking to uphold the integrity of the game, the official blatantly lies about how the process occurred in a post-game interview.
  • When called out on the lie, the NFL doubles down, seeking to protect its integrity by lying about how much integrity it has.
  • The Chiefs are called for zero penalties in a game, the first time that has occurred in the NFL in approximately two years.
  • Brian Branch gets suspended for a game because of a fight, instigated because of the apparent lack of enforcement of safety rules during the game by officials.
  • The appeal of this suspension is heard by former Packer d-bag Jordy Nelson and is predictably denied.
  • In the aftermath of the suspension, NFL Films releases a hit piece on Brian Branch.
  • Within hours, in the face of immense backlash, NFL Films deletes the piece.

What'd I miss?

That about sums it up.

NFL officials are corrupt POS's, both on the field and off.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the impetus for the clip getting pulled came from within the Lions organization.

It was up and then down very fast. Too fast for it to have been the result of social media backlash. I wouldn’t be surprised if a player sent it to Campbell who sent it to Rod Wood who sent it to NFL Films with the message “what in the absolute hell is this garbage?”
