We're gonna get swept. because baseball, you don't pull your starter in the 4th. And here I thought after last season and pitching chaos that Hinch and the Tigers were past all the old rules. Seems like every imaginative manager still wants to go all trad as soon as he has a good team. Edited September 3 by gehringer_2 Quote

How do you navigate something like this? 1 Quote
IdahoBert Posted September 3 Posted September 3 12-2. This is a pretty emphatic example of what happens going up against a really really good team and it’s indicative of some of the weaknesses in this club. It is just two games, but it’s indicative. Quote
GalagaGuy Posted September 3 Posted September 3 The Tigers first reached 20 games over .500 on June 10th. Quote
tiger2022 Posted September 3 Posted September 3 Chris Paddack seriously has no business pitching in organized baseball. His rookie year was by far his best. 1 Quote
Adullin Posted September 3 Posted September 3 the bullpen is either lights out or light up with no middle ground. Quote

How do you navigate something like this? I think with Morton and whoever is the 5th fill in de jure you just go back to openers for one or two, then short stints (<=4 IP) for everyone but Flaherty, Skubal and Mize. Don't let anyone else go even twice through a line-up if you can help it. If the quality of the pitching is bad, you use variety to try to keep hitters from dialing in. It's a strategy that teams have been too proud to use on any consistent basis for 120 years but it's a real strategy and it can help and it's about the best card the Tigers have left because Hinch has the skill to manage it. monkeytargets39 Posted September 3 Posted September 3 Rogers might legitimately be our third best pitcher Quote
gehringer_2 Posted September 3 Posted September 3 The Mets won two innings, the Tigers have won two innings. Shouldn't that make it a draw? Quote

kdog Posted September 3 Posted September 3 Cleveland already lost...KC is 2 innings away from losing. The Tigers are playing against themselves. Quote

tiger2022 Posted September 3 Posted September 3 Did Hinch know about the death in the family and still send him out to pitch? Quote

tiger2022 Posted September 3 Posted September 3 I have no clue. I could see Hinch doing either of them. Quote

For some guys going out to pitch would be the best way to cope with grief. Everybody is different. It's hard to know whether his mental state affected his outcome or not since he's not that good to being with and a result like yesterday would not be unexpected for him under normal circumstances. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Edited September 3 by gehringer_2 1 Quote
