IdahoBert Posted September 14 Posted September 14 Well, in the top of the ninth will the Fish throw a guy out there with a 12.14 ERA to throttle the Tigers? Or stick with the guy with a 9.40ERA. Quote
lordstanley Posted September 14 Posted September 14 2-0 Tigers after 8, despite the Tigers only having 2 hits so far. With a 2-run lead in the 8th, I don’t think there was enough of an upside to letting the ball drop on purpose. Take the easy pop out. Could have hit Tork’s pant leg on the way down and bounced away for example. Quote

lordstanley Posted September 14 Posted September 14 Tying run on base, winning run coming to the plate. Quote
CaliforniaDreaming Posted September 14 Posted September 14 Whew! Why do they have to make everything so difficult? 1 Quote
IdahoBert Posted September 14 Posted September 14 I’m glad this isn’t a WNBA game because there’s all sorts of children on the field right now. Quote
IdahoBert Posted September 14 Posted September 14 Sometimes a baseball season feels like it’s 1000 years long. As a fan, it can feel that long. Personally, I’m starting to feel exhausted by it all. I can’t imagine how long it must feel to a ball player. These guys are a special breed. Keeping themselves fit and emotionally and psychologically balanced has got to be an ability unequally distributed among human beings. I know I certainly don’t possess it. Quote

It has to be hard for teams that are way out of a race mid-season. Even with the extra playoff teams, some teams know they can't compete. But teams in a race probably look forward to the games and it probably helps keep their focus. But I agree it's a very long season. Quote
lordstanley Posted September 14 Posted September 14 So the Guardians swept the White Sox in a 3-game series, the Jays swept Baltimore in a 3-game series, and the Mariners are about to sweep LA Angels in a 4-game series. Seattle has emerged as our chief bye risk - only 3 back and winning the tiebreaker over the Tigers and 3 more games versus the Rockies. Houston is 4 back of the Tigers and the Tigers win the tiebreaker so the Astros should be a non-issue. Quote

IdahoBert Posted September 14 Posted September 14 I don’t know if it matters if a team is charging into the playoffs on a roll with a head of steam, or if they back into the playoffs trying to hold onto what they have and making sure no one makes off with the family jewels. That’s why I will not lose a lot of sleep over this. The playoffs are their own animal and I don’t think Big Mo or a lack there of makes much difference. In a three or five game or seven game stretch anything can happen. Quote
