Your serious benchmark for firing A.J. is whether he intentionally walks Jose Ramirez each and every time he comes to the plate? Makes it look like you're just looking for any excuse to dump him.

How many times do we have to lose to the same guy?  The entire rest of the team is bums except for Kwan.

I mean, that's fine, you're certainly free to take the position that A.J. should be fired because he's not intentionally walking Jose Ramirez any time. Everyone has their unique benchmarks.

I said to bean him before the game even started. Just...plunk him. Hard. Make him bleed. Tale no prisoners. Wanna lose as a good sport? I would rather win as a bad sport.

Pitching to Rameriz at leverage is objectively pretty dumb and in fact Hinch has walked him in the past.  Could also be Melton is just too inexperienced to understand/execute an instruction to not give a guy anything to hit - though then again that's something Hinch needs to understand.

Man, this is looking like nothing less than the throes of an epic all-time collapse.

It would be way bigger than the Tigers’ surge to a playoff spot last year. If they lose the division after being 9.5 games up with 16 to go, it would probably be the biggest MLB collapse ever.

Team seems to have exactly three guys that give you a good AB under pressure. Tork, Carp and Dingler. Well McKinstry sometimes. Greene's absence from that list is an issue.

Jose Ramirez career vs Detroit:

597 ABs.
.305 AVG.

.381 OBP.

.581 SLG

41 doubles

11 Triples

34 Homeruns

117 Runs Scored

126 RBIs

24 SBs

And he’s not putting up numbers close to this overall against any other team he’s faced over 100 times.

There is no reason for us to be pitching to him in close/late game situations, especially considering the below average hitters behind him in the lineup.

I think they just lost the division (and playoffs) today.    And, I don't know about what next year looks like after this.  Sometimes teams don't recover from epic collapses.      The absolute arrogance and stupidity of doing next to nothing at the trade deadline.  Like you're so good you don't need to go for it now.  After the All Star Break when they were brutal I made a post that was sort of a joke where I wrote "this is going to be really painful"     This is very very painful.      Sitting still (at the deadline) didn't send a good message and you heard that from the Red Wings last year.  The team captain, Dylan Larkin, talked about how let down the team was when they did nothing at the deadline.  I think it's kind of the same story here.      If this does happen, doesn't someone need to go?   I don't know who, but someone?

I don't think Melton giving up the home run is de facto evidence that he is too dumb to follow instructions and that A.J. is too ignorant to understand how baseball works. Sometimes pitchers leave mistakes over the heart of the plate, and that goes double for rookies.

well exactly - which is why maybe you don't ask him to pitch to Ramirez? I'm not going to get all weak in the knees because Hinch did one stupid thing, but I'm willing to call it what it was - stupid.

Of course the Tigers didn't score any more runs, so the question was ultimately moot.

If Mariners hold on Det is 3.5 up on Cleveland and 1 up on Seattle and Houston. Very real possibility now that the Tigers do,no make the post season. Those last 6 road games make me very anxious

And because the Red Sox have lost 2 of 3 to Athletics, they haven't locked up a playoff spot and might still have a lot to play for next weekend instead of resting up for the WC round.

They have to to win 2 out of 3 vs. the Braves this weekend and pray (and I am atheist) that Cleveland cools down.   This is awful.

Can Cleveland keep winning these one and two run games? At some point this has to bite them.

You really would not have predicted this if you knew you were going to get a string of decent starts from Morton, Mize and Flaherty.

Nor would I have predicted that after outscoring the Yankees 23-3 in two games at Yankee Stadium, the Tigers then would lose 6 of the next 7.

The Twins don't care about baseball, and the Braves are playing for roster spots next season.  The Guardians and Tigers could be tied going into their series next week.

I have zero confidence in their offense and bullpen.  Plus Morton gets a start...going to be tough to win that one
