Oh wow, horrible call in Chicago right now. Padres down 2 in the 9th, 0 on 0 out, Boegarts absolutely drew a ball four on a full count pitch but it was called a strikeout.

Umpire needs to take a ****...........too many Chicago-style hot dogs.

I'm old and I'm old school. I don't see how they don't start Skubal game one no matter when it is. I don't know how to look up the stats, but like someone said, he's had some rest. I think he went a little over a hundred pitches that day, and around 92ish the game before. He's a horse, and shouldn't be overworked. He throws every day except maybe the day after a start.

Besides, he will be gone anyway. And Detroit should be glad that happens. He will be too expensive, so get something. He will break down early and never make the end of the contract he will command. He's already had arm surgery as I understand. He has a violent delivery that will eventually doom him. I love to watch him work, and he is absolutely (as Rod Allen would say) filthy when he gets it all going at the same time. Incredible talent.

This chance only happens once every so often, maybe a lifetime. My Indian friends were talking about 1948 today. We are lucky, many remember 84, and maybe some 68.

But this is when you leave it all on the line. Nut the **** up. And quit swinging at bad pitches.

Same as it has been for close to a month now. Not making moves at the deadline helped ruin this season. Keeping the best overall record should have been the goal, not backing into the last playoff spot.

I would like to point out that one of our trade acquisitions got 4 huge outs when the game was tied and picked up the win.

Kahnle doesn't get a spot on the ALDS roster, right?  I think he's had all the chances Hinch can afford to give him.

Yeah I’d want Horn up just because they’ve got several lefties and switch hitters, and I’d rather have the freedom to use Holton in a variety of spots rather than have to save him for specific ABs

He can still get 2 starts if he starts game 2 on 4 days rest.   He’s had more starts with5 plus days rest than he has 4 this season.  His last start I believe was the most pitches he’s thrown this season.  Don’t take a chance and start him on 3 days rest out of his norm and potentially blow his first start.  If we are talking an elimination game, definitely consider it.  But not the difference between game 1 and 2 of a 5 game series.

I want to win game one.

Doesn’t look like Bryan Woo will be pitching in the ALDS—or if he does it wouldn’t be the first few games.  That’s a big deal because their starting pitching isn’t their strong point.  If the bats are perking up, this could be a winnable series.  They’d probably have the game 1 pitching matchup advantage if we don’t go with Skubal, but we would likely have the advantage in all other games.

They'll be rusty for game 1 after the layoff. We can steal it. And then Skubal in game 2, thats ours. Split in Detroit and on to the ALCS. (In my dreams)

But it’s as likely he comes out off doing something he hasn’t at all this season and you waste a Skubal start.  It would also put him on 3 days rest for game 4.

if he pitches game 2 on 4 days, he can get game 5 on 4 days also.  (Or be ready for game 1 of the ALCS when we win in 4)

I think someone looked into that last year and Tork was definitely a victim of lots of balls called strike. Likely same this year.

Then Tork should have a very good year in 2026

Has that been confirmed? I was counting on him going on 4 days rest on Sunday and then again on 4 days rest on Friday for a Game 5 if necessary.

I'll have to believe he pitches Game 2 on Sunday. That's four-day's rest and will allow him to go in a Game 5, such like last year.

Yes, I think this is what they’ve already implied

Depending on what they decide, Skubal will pitch game 1 and 4, or 2 and 5. If he goes 1 and 4, game 4 will be in Detroit. If 2 and 5, both will be in Seattle. What is the advantage/dis-advantage to the ball park and matchups of the parks?

I’m toying with watching the Yankees - Red Sox elimination game, but I don’t know if I can weather fawning celebration of these two teams on ESPN.

These ESPN broadcasters are unspeakably bad.  (Except David Cone. He’s usually good, sometimes funny)
One of them just said “two rookies in a pitcher’s duel at the end of two innings”

Whaaat???
Stupid.

He won’t be going 1 and 4.  They aren’t going to go 3 days rest twice.  Seattle is a pitcher friendly park.  It’s also where he went to college.

Detroit in 4. There's no stopping us now.

Who was on the mic for the Tigers game? Sounded like a hockey announcer.

There is no way they use him in 1 and 4.  They won't use him on three days rest because he's never done that before.  Believe me, I miss the days of pitchers going on 3 days rest sometimes and pitching complete games, but it is a different game today.  I  actually think there are still pitchers today that could pitch more games, more innings, but those days are over.
