Edman85 Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago All six pitchers in DFA limbo from Tuesday also non-tendered, as predicted. I'd expect Little, Duggan, and Mattison all back within the next week or so. Not so sure on Rainey and Guenther. Foley will probably want to test the market before settling for a minor league deal. Didn't make it until 28, If he manages to catch on for another year of platoon duty he could get to 500 games playes and be done at 33. That's not a bad career for guy that broke in that late. RatkoVarda Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago Foley got tendered a contract per Beck. that correct? Quote

We will need Ed to sort this out because from anything I've read, you can't tender a player you have DFA'd, so maybe one or the other of the reports are wrong. Tigermojo Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago Tigers sign Vierling, Brieske, Rogers; non-tender Ibáñez Beck fixed it. "Tigers bullpen that has lost Jason Foley, Alex Lange and Sean Guenther in recent moves." 1 Quote
Edman85 Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago You can tender a contract to a DFA, but then you would have to outright that tendered contract at the end of the DFA period after clearing waivers... and Foley can't be outrighted because of his injury. Quote
gehringer_2 Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago (edited) Beck posted a correction - Foley DFA'd is correct. In any case, that's too bad. Would have liked to see him make it back. Edited 17 hours ago by gehringer_2 Quote
papalawrence Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago Wonder if Harris will give Gonsolin a flier? Seems like his type of signing Quote
AlaskanTigersFan Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago I'd like to give him AND Beuhler a shot. See what Fetter can do w/ them. Quote

Graterol Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago https://blogs.fangraphs.com/2026-zips-projections-detroit-tigers/ Not sure if this has been posted. This highlights to me biggest holes are SS (depending on mcgonigle) and OF. Would still love Kim on a 1 year deal. I also think Carp is traded. Quote

They've lost a lot of their reliever depth from the last couple of years (at least on the 40-man roster) and will need to replenish, but I'm still not worried about losing Foley. He now joins the large group of freely available replacement relievers which Harris is very adept at cycling in and out of the system. Quote

They seem to prefer having a group with varying strengths. Quote

He has had injuries, but looking him up just now, he has been better than I thought. Quote

It seems like Harris is pretty good at building bullpens for Hinch to use. The bullpen was a major reason the Tigers made the playoffs in 2024 and standing pat on questionable arms isn't the best idea. Turnover seems to work best, while a solid bullpen is the difference in a playoff team and a bottom feeding team, building a bullpen is such a crapshoot. Quote
Edman85 Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Random Tigers thought I had. Of all the people who could realistically be added to the roster (i.e. prospects, free agents, trade candidates, injury returnees), the one most likely to put up a 5+ WAR season in 2026 is probably Kevin McGonigle. 1 Quote

I'm curious to hear (because I value your Tiger wisdom)...what is your prediction on McGonigle for this coming season? Do you see him on the roster in the spring or do you them waiting until August when they can keep his rookie status for 2027? Or maybe something different? (If you posted this somewhere else, I apologize.) Quote

When Foley was good he threw harder, which gives a pitcher a little more leeway to make mistakes and get a away with it. Quote
