I dont think midget is politically correct. Go with the Rod Allen description of Jose Altuve...."Itty Bitty Fella"

How about vertically challenged?

And Casey not in any Tigers gear. Trade confirmed.

Well, lets be fair, I think he woke up about 30 seconds before the picture.

So, the guy that led our team in wins last year, a #1 overall draft pick, who was an All Star last year with an ERA under 4 -- is our FIFTH starter.

Wow.

Let's be honest with ourselves.  People on here think Verlander is going to be the ace of years ago.  He's more likely going to be Charlie Morton from last year.  Dude is 43 years old, will spend half the season on the IL and half his starts are going to be really ugly.

It isn't an amazing signing other than nostalgia.

I'd prefer they spend on a 3rd baseman or corner outfielder/DH.

I’m very excited for Verlander to be back, but if we’re being honest, Reese is probably a better pitcher at this point in their careers.

Maybe.  Availability is an ability.  Olson struggles with that.

He’s probably going to be in between Cy Young and Charlie Morton.  Any commentary about him is going to be shoved to one side or the other.  His game starts might need to be moved to the political section.

He's said he wants to pitch until he's 45 years old. Getting him to 300 wins will be a challenge. But he can throw strikes and usually veterans get all the calls. It will be pretty sad if the Tigers have to DFA him.

No he isn't. He's our #3 starter. Behind Skubal and Valdez. Ahead of Flaherty and JV.

Nobody here -- and I mean precisely zero people here -- think Verlander is gonna be the ace he was back in the day. Not a single person thinks that. Everyone -- and I mean everyone -- expects him to be a serviceable 4th/5th guy in the rotation and great influence in the locker room a la Kenny Rogers.

Growing up and until recently in Canada hockey league divisions went up from novice-atom-pee wee - bantam - midget. Some of those names - especially midget - were considered derogatory so a few years ago switched to age classifiers like U9, U18.  One small step for regular-sized man, one giant leap for short-limbed people.

Midget a derogatory slur?

Athletics Canada recently said it would pursue dropping the term "midget" as an age category descriptor, a move that came a few days after the Ontario Basketball Association stated its plans to do the same. The term has been used for decades in a variety of sports but many consider it to be a derogatory slur.

Allan Redford, the director of the Dwarf Athletic Association of Canada, applauded the recent developments and hopes others may follow suit.

"I'm actually wonderfully encouraged that they're taking this approach and that it's getting this much traction," Redford said Wednesday. "I'm very, very pleased."

The main difference i see between Rogers and JV is Rogers helped influence a very young pitching staff. With the exception of Melton, who is the young guys JV can help? Do Not give advice to Takik Skubal, he's a finished product.

Skubal is #1 and Valdez is #2.  I wouldn't really assign a number to anyone else.  There is is nothing in Mizes track record which sets him apart from Flaherty.

Last season was his first season back after fullly recovering from surgery. He was an All Star pitcher. That's his track record. Flaherty is way too inconsistent. He just seems to be going along and has an inning where he imploded. And JV has had a hall of fame career but is in his twilight. Mize is going to have a monster season. Book it...

I think Hinch might assign Skubal, then Flaherty, then Valdez just to keep the two lefties apart in the rotation.
