slothfacekilla Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago The hfboards person I referenced seems to think the Wings are going to trade Larkin and DeBrincat this summer. Faulk, Gibson and Copp at the deadline. Get a top 5 pick in the next draft. Would be quite a reset. It makes some sense but scares the crap out of me. Theoretically it would bring in a lot of assets though....judging by how people view our scouts and front office I imagine it would scare a lot of people. Quote
slothfacekilla Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Part of why I was so shocked by the Larkin request was it seemed like the Wings have done extremely well by him and his family. Multiple leaves for family stuff. Putting his parents/wife/kid in a suite for home games, having his wife and kid in the tunnel for Dylan to say hi to before hitting the ice, etc. Quote

He got the #16 overall pick AND Alex Tuch who had previously had a 50+ point season. Take away Tuch from the trade and I'm sure Buffalo could have asked for a higher pick if Vegas had one to give. I presume Tuch was added in because pick #16 by itself wasn't enough. Quote

Meanwhile you're talking about the second overall pick (in a draft where the top 2 players are fantastic prospects) and Misa who was considered one of the best prospects in the entire league? Tuch is a good player but he was never the same level prospect as Misa. Krebs had plenty of warts which we've seen play out in his career where he's settled in as a less than 40 point player who is bad at defense. I admire your optimism but I think you're going to be very sad with the trade return if this is what you're expecting. I'll give you your kudos if something like this happens but.....it seems insane to me. Larkin had 79 points...in no universe I'm aware of was Jack Eichel a better player than Larkin is now..and Larkin has a cheap deal with five yeears to run Vegas gave up more to get a damaged Eichel than I'm asking for (regardless of how Krebs turned out, he was considered a top prospect at the time and Tuch had a 20 goal season in Vegas) Larkin is a top 2 way C with 5 consecutive 30 goal seasons...he was a key member of the National team. Misa is a prospect...the 2nd overall pick will be a prospect. You think giving up a two way star for two prospects is too much? Edited 1 hour ago by Shinzaki 1 Quote

I don't think Larkin straight up for #2 overall is asking too much. Considering the number of top 3 picks that don't end up with careers as successful as Larkin's has been, I think it's a fair valuation. Considering Larkin is still in his prime and on such a team friendly deal, this also makes it a fair valuation. Quote
slothfacekilla Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago (edited) Ref it isn't fair that two of them are in the ring at the same time! I feel like @lordstanley could be the ref here? Edited 1 hour ago by slothfacekilla Quote
Dan Gilmore Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Is Larkin still in his prime? I hope other teams think so. Me, not so sure. Quote

I think a few pages ago I asked whether Larkin + Cossa would be in a conversation for #2 overall alone, and even that I really doubt SJ would say yes to. 1 Quote
Shinzaki Posted 4 minutes ago Posted 4 minutes ago You guys hate Larkin more than the rest of the league...Good players do not become available often...top 25 guys in the league almost never do. Larkin is a proven veteran with a lot of mileage left...he's very highly regarded with the USA hockey program, as evidenced by his spot on the Four Nations and Olympic teams. Why some of you want to sell him for peanuts is beyond me. Quote
