Last night was another data point on why you don't pay Duren.  Harris not playing for whatever reason.  Ausar ejected.  Robinson out with an injury.  Time for our guy looking for a big deal to step up.  0 points in the 3rd quarter.  0 points in the 4th quarter.  0 points in the OT.

The Pistons could have shot better and that would have solved the issue, but this might have been the worst officiated game I've seen in years.

Ref initiates contact with Ausar and so he tosses him. Should've just been one tech. Meanwhile Lebron basically arm wrestles a ref last week and doesn't get anything.

That same ref gives JB a tech for pulling Cade off the court as they're heading to the locker room.

That shot clock violation/non-possession call was bogus since Washington had both hands clutching the ball before dropping it.

Same ref doesn't give JB the timeout as he's calling for it while standing right next to him on the sideline when Duren gets the rebound. Oh, and Duren was fouled big time on that rebound with AD draped all over him. Oh, and AD was standing out of bounds.

At one point it was something like 21 to 7 on FTAs and Dallas wound up shooting something like 16 more than the Pistons even though we're the team always going to the paint.

Someone check that ref's Fanduel account. What a joke.

JB does needs to get the team to cool it with the officials. The reffing in the NBA sucks a lot, they can't let it get to them all the time.

I agree with this.  This team doesn't seem to be understand that bad calls happen all the time and at some point, you just need to let it go.

I don't really want to pay Duren either.  At least see what is available at the deadline.

The Pistons also should challenge Isaiah Stewart to control his emotions so we can play him 30 minutes a game.  He needs to be a big part of our future.

I'll say two things in Duren's defense: He's been durable, and he's only a month past his 22nd birthday.

Well, maybe three - the year spent playing for Monty Williams was probably a waste of development time.

Stewart has mellowed out throughout the years.  Hard to believe he’s in his 6th season.

The other thing is...

If he's the 3rd or 4th star... he doesn't have to be all-world. He only has to be the right guy that meshes with Cade for unstoppable offense.

Also: If he has proven that he is worthless without Cade...

I still don't know if that says he needs to be jettisoned... he may just need a backup PG that can get him the ball somewhat similarly to Cade... call him... I don't know... how about Andrew Nembhard, just for arguments sake? Start with Cade-Ausar for defense first... and then bring in Nembhard to take over ballhandling from Cade (to give him a breather... not on the bench but a real PG that allows him to play some off-the-ball...). If Nembhard can effectively get the ball to Duren where he scores (effectively) then that resolves the Duren-without-Cade problem.

I don't think any other PG on our team has been effective enough in doing that (replacing Cade if injured, enough of a playmaker to keep other players scoring effectively, etc...).

I don't want Schroder back. I don't think Ivey has shown he's that guy. And unless Daniss steps up and completely takes over the backup/alternate PG effectively (he did that for about a week), we still have a problem there.

The rest of our offense (including Duren) suffers greatly without an effective PG (excluding Cade of course) on the floor.

IMO.

JB seems to want Ivey to be a 3 & D guy but the 3's have been missing the last few of games.

And that would be great.

Hope he achieves JB's expectations.

He's still a tertiary ball-handler though, because he still isn't a PG or backup PG...

Duren is still developing.  we forget how raw he was when he got here.  one of the problems with drafting a guy so raw is that theyre not fully developed when you have to make a decision on paying them long term.
