If i had on nitpick with this draft it would have been trading up for Moore when there were a few edges still on the board if he was hellbent on drafting an edge there. There was still quite a bit of talent left in the fourth.

Other than that it will be interesting to see how Rolder and Moore fit in the defense since they are a bit different Anzelone and Davenport.

Also hoping that they have some cap space left for DJ Reader, I hate having to rely on Levi.

Hopefully they get it done with Campbell. This was the same plan and the same reasoning the Ravens tried with Linderbaum though that led to a bad team with lots of money backing up a Brinks truck.

Granted, a center’s relationship to a quarterback is not comparable to an off-ball linebacker.

Can't say I'll lose any sleep over this list. Maybe Reader would have been nice depth, but they replaced him with youth which is fine. Maulet and Cunningham are maybe a little surprising just in terms of the depth at those positions, though they're both older guys who again could be replaced with youth.

I think people are underrating the pass rushing juice and run defense that Moore provides.

Yes, it seems likely that Baltimore was going to take Moore. If Brad had him as his top rated pass rusher on the board, I don’t have a problem with the trade. He will be a substantial upgrade over the rotating cast of characters we’ve had opposite Hutch for the last few years.

We gave up a fourth. 98 percent of fourth round picks amount to zippo. I wouldn’t be worried about losing that

There are quite differing opinions on what Moore will be. I've read some that say he is more of a 3-4 stand up edge, and others that he will be a 3 down 4-3 edge setter. I know he stood up a lot at Michigan but that was probably just Wink forcing guys to fit in his system, rather than what they are best at.

That's a little dishonest, though, because it assumes Holmes would've done the same thing JAX did with those picks.

There is absolutely nothing dishonest about citing facts.

The facts aren't dishonest; the inference being made that Holmes trading those picks got better value than keeping them for later use absolutely is dishonest.

You inferred that.

All I said was that the trade was worth it in my eyes. TeSlaa showed real promise last year in a very limited role. Random 3rd round picks, whether selected by a good GM in Holmes or an unproven GM (to be kind) in Gladstone, are closer to late round lottery picks than sure-fire contributors.

Holmes has picked Alim McNeill, Iffy Melifonwu, Kerby Joseph, Hendon Hooker, Brodric Martin, and Isaac TeSlaa in the third round. Go back another five years to get another GM’s perspective, Quinn took Julian Okwara, Jonah Jackson, Will Harris, Tracy Walker, Kenny Golladay, and Graham Glasgow in the 3rd round.

It’s hit and miss. If a GM I trust like Holmes sees an Alim/Kerby type in the 3rd round, I’m okay with him sacrificing picks that are more likely (in his mind) to become Brodric Martin than the guy he’s going up to get. To say “yeah but the picks he gave up could have been TWO Alim/Kerby types” is painting a picture of the draft board like very likely doesn’t exist, or at the very least is entirely unrealistic for the kind of scouting skills any NFL team has.

Liar!!!!

😂

Pro Football Reference has a draft page that gives a very rough estimate of each drafted player’s value. There are a lot of players with higher value attributed to them, including some safeties, DL, OL, and CBs. They probably could have made a difference with all of the injuries the team has suffered at those positions.

Of course, most of these players went to weaker rosters than the Lions and may have had less competition. And we fans have been saying for years that the offense needs a true X who can work the sidelines and provide a vertical target in the red zone. So Brad got him and all he does is catch touchdowns. I’d say it worked out OK.

Just wait until he learns he can use two hands!
