fair enough. I can't say that version with the stubby bones rings any bells, but don't follow neo-nazis either! :classic_laugh:

Actually later in life, (and at a point somewhat estranged from my SO) my FIL had collected a fair amount of Nazi memorabilia along with more general WWII stuff, which was weird on a couple of counts because he was actually Korean generation, not WWII. He had moved out of state before his passing and when we went down after his death to help the estate agent with the house, the collection in the den was not exactly to my taste.. As far as we ever knew he was never any kind of radical, but he was still fascinated by the WWII stuff in a way I wouldn't call healthy. We told the agent to just deep 6 it all.

I am in possession of a dagger my dad stripped off a Nazi during the war. It is really high quality all around, blade, handle, sheath, and I could probably sell it for a couple hundred dollars at some shop somewhere. But I’m not sure I want to necessarily put it into circulation, either. Not sure what to do.

The Antisemites at the UAW have endorsed Abdul El-Sayed for Senate. One of the largest and most important unions in Michigan endorses Abdul.

That endorsement did wonders for Kamala Harris. The UAW seems to have lost its magic. They endorse the rat****er who helped Trump instead of the candidate who worked on the task forced that saved all their jobs.

What will they do when he's not the nominee?

One, polling suggests he might well be the nominee. He's been tied or leading in several primary polls lately. Two, they will do exactly what they did for Attorney General this year. At the MDP Convention they endorsed Karen McDonald, but she lost to Eli Savit. They endorsed Eli after the convention. So if Mallory or Haley Stevens wins, the UAW will endorse one of them.

Knowing nothing at all about El-Sayed, if he is elected senator, how would he work to reduce rights and increase restrictions for Jewish Americans?

I don't think he would.  I live in a city that's now largely run by Arabs and Muslims.  He doesn't worry me at all and I don't care if he wins.  I'll most likely vote for him unless something crazy comes out.  My concern is mostly about his supporters bailing if Stevens wins the nomination.  Progressives and Muslims are very tribal and they take rejection personally and would rather let a Republican win than vote for someone that ousted their preferred candidate.

My problem with El-Sayed is everything is a purity test. He supported an uncommitted campaign that campaigned, fundraised, and phone banked against the only candidate to defeat Trump. He spent more of his energy weakening the Democratic candidate than attacking Trump. He clearly lacks judgement. He deleted all his social media about defunding the police. He campaigns with Hasan Piker who said the US deserved 9/11. All he does is pitch Medicare for All with no realistic plan to implement it.

This president can’t engineer the gerrymandering of the Senate, so they will have to resort to some combination of suppressing turnout beforehand and limiting access on-site.

He can't engineer anything.  He may have great instincts, but anything that takes intelligence is beyond him.  Getting some thugs to help him limit access is more his thing.  More fun for him too.

Abdul endorsed Kamala Harris and was openly supportive of her election. He did the same in 2020 for Joe Biden. Yes, in the primary only, he supported a vote for uncommitted. But in the general he did everything you asked. Furthermore, as someone who has seen him speak at least 5 times now, he does far more than just pitch Medicare For All. He has a whole swath of ideas, on a range of issues. Just because you plug your ears and go la-la-la-la like Lloyd Christmas doesn't make it so. It's just you choosing not to hear or acknowledge them.

I think Platner is rightly cooked at this point. He has had scandal after scandal for the better part of 6-8 months now. Nazi tattoos, disgusting posts online/reddit about sexual assault, allegations of affairs and being hostile to woman. He should step aside and end his campaign and allow Janet Mills to become the nominee. Unfortunately, his ego and arrogance won't allow for that. He's blowing a golden opportunity for Democrats in Maine and assuring that Susan Collins will be back in the Senate.

the question is whether any of the money Mills says she needed and didn't have starts coming her way.

My concern is stevens supporters bailing.   Theyre hypocritically here saying they will.   Every.  Single.  Day.

Trump engineered the gerrymandering of the House through a pressure campaign, and after Callais, no fewer than eight states redrew their maps in his favor that experts estimate should pick up 10 to 12 seats overall, while another estimate says they could gain as many as 16 to 18 seats if all the aggressive redraws were to fully materialize. Link

I don't know what the benchmark would have to be for you to acknowledge it as a success, and maybe it can be argued that he did not get a 100% uptake rate on the re-draws, and there may be some way it all still falls flat for him in November. But at this point, I don't believe it can be reasonably argued that he did not succeed in his quest to engineer a gerrymandering of the House.
