Arthur we need more money!

Somebody got it! Actually, it would’ve been interesting if at the beginning of the game, you could just kill Micah and see how things turned out.

I wish leaving the gang was an option once you got enough money

They traded him for Al Cowens who didn't do much for them.  They replaced Thompson with Hebner and then Cabell.  Thompson had some good years with the Angels and Pirates - getting on base but not so much power for a first baseman.  So, I think they missed him, but not "all that much: as you said.

Are Torkelson and Greene the modern day Thompson and Kemp?

I've always thought Greene's timeline doesn't match up well with the comng core of the team.   Coupled with him having real trade value it seems to make him a prime candidate for some sort of a hole filling trade.

Colt Keith is probably feeling a bit like a ping-pong ball. No matter what they tell him in Dec about where he is going to play, it becomes inoperative by the end of ST. If as is very possible, McGonigle and Meadows both go north, he's going to end up sharing 1st with Tork, 3rd with McGonigle and McKinstry, and maybe some second with Torres.

While I'm sure he's willing, I'm less sure he has the defensive chops to be able to play well moving around to multiple positions.

Contract or no, he seems to be the guy most squeezed if McGonigle and Meadows both make the team. He hasn't shown the power to play a lot of 1st, McGonigle may emerge as the better hitter from the left side at 3rd, and Torres has been an everyday player.

OTOH, at least one injury across those positions is almost inevitable esp with Torres' history and Javy's age.

I feel like Keith being a LHH is now hurting him.  Everywhere he could slot into the lineup defensively there’s either a much better defender on roster or a substantially better power threat that we need to keep in the lineup.

If he hit Right Handed then you could at least do platoons at 3B and DH a lot easier.

There probably won’t be green uniforms today because of some Nike rule they get to make because of their “intimate relationship” with MLB. Something about four uniforms only or something like that and I find it too tedious to look up in detail. It probably won’t be any more than a green hat. I guess serendipitous playfulness is just ruled out now. And since this game only has radio coverage unless you’re physically at the game you wouldn’t get to see it anyway.

I agree it has ben a bit unfortunate for Keith playing second one year then first base the next, for a while , and now third base  in a crowd. I hope they just settle him in at third and let him play most games there without moving around so we cn actually find out if he is any good. Can he field ? Can he hit with power ?  Either get actual production from him or increase his trade value.

Is Tom Monaghan back?

So in the first inning against the Orioles, JV induces weak contact, gives up only a single to Pete Alonso, which is the best of a bad world, and ends up, striking out 1 in 17 pitches. That’s better than a string of home runs like last time.

McGonigle isn't going to make the team and be in a 3B platoon.

No team is going to platoon the #2 prospect

I just missed a ball that was overturned to become a strike for JV, but I was out of the room for a while and I don’t know who asked that it would be reviewed. If it were JV himself that would be instructive about the manner in which the tigers are going to do this stuff this year.

I think that McGonigle will be the starting SS, with Baez spelling him on occasion vs tough lefties.  Keith will be the starter at 3B.  Baez will get plenty of AB’s moving around in CF, SS, 3B and DH.

Odd man out will be Wenceel.

But he could make the team and play 50/50 SS and 3b. Javy plays 50/50 SS/CF and maybe some 3b. Parker just plays 50% or doesn't make the team. Assuming they do keep McGonigle, there are too many combinations to contemplate until they also decide which of Meadows/Perez/Jung/Jones may also make Opening Day.

Verlander still out for the fifth inning after allowing no runs having struck out five and walked nobody. I guess he did challenge the ball that was turned into a strike so the tigers are going to let at least some of the pitchers make this decision this year.

Skubal has a very controlled follow through, he never really loses sight of his pitches. JV is pretty similar - he falls off maybe a little more but not much.

JV give us up a HR with two outs in the fifth, so it was a decent day all things considered. Had a chance to stretch out his arm.

7 of JV's last 8 pitchers were 4 seamers, all the pitches to Ramos were. So he was just airing it out at that point and Ramos could just look dead red. The good part was that JV's velo was still good at 75 pitches (~95), and that's big for him.

only 4 baserunners for each team so far.
