Sports_Freak Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago I looked at the weather for today, yesterday, and it looked clear. Now it says 100% chance of rain. It may be a delay but it looks like it will clear out by 8PM. Quote

IdahoBert Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago I can’t help but think there are better options than Colt Keith somewhere in this system. No HRs and 7 RBI against right handed pitching in 180 at bats? Who could possibly do worse? Is there never anybody on base in front of this guy? Whatever instruction the guy is receiving, has it destroyed him? I know other guys in baseball are sucking too, but man, it’s pretty deep into the season. What am I missing here? Quote

He hit a couple a long way last night, but I still think watching him that his hips are gone too soon, his lower body is done - too far in front of the rest of his swing - before it can help impart any power to his swing. This is something he came up with in the off season and it hasn't worked. I don't know what the guide line in hitting is for how long you stick with something you believe is going to be better hoping it comes around vs pulling the plug but at this point he's getting worse. He finished April with a very respectable 761 OPS, and a great OBP, even if without any HR, but since the 1st week in May he's just collapsed - OPS=473, (he and Tork both going in the tank in early May a big factor in the team's offensive collapse along with losing Glyber & Javy. Tork has pretty much recovered, Keith has not). Either the pitchers have found weaknesses in what he is doing now or hebis trying to modify things on the fly for more power and he's just stuck in no-man's land - who knows? But it's bad and still getting worse. Edited 2 hours ago by gehringer_2 1 Quote

RBI are somewhat dependent on having base runners. Keith started out on fire this year, for a bit he was one of our hottest hitters. Then the genius started platooning him and he's been in a slump. Not blaming Hinch, it's Keith not knowing if he'll play 3rd base, be a DH or on the bench from game to game. Some players need more stability. Quote

I'd hate to believe that Hinch's handling has broken his confidence as a hitter, but of course it's possible. The other likely candidate is pressure he felt over the lack of HR even though he was being productive in April. Quote

And I still say he has a better chance getting a hit off a LH pitcher than Jones does PH for him. Jones is something like 1 for 28 in his last 28 at bats. Something horrid... Quote

Colt did have some BaBIP luck in April, and of course it has fallen since. High BaBIPs are often luck, low ones can be luck too but can also be low EV - but I haven't done that deep a dive. Quote
Tiger337 Posted 41 minutes ago Posted 41 minutes ago It seems like every year, Keith is up and down. He hits for a while and then pitchers figure him out. Then he adjusts and then they figure him out again. And he never hits for consistent power. Maybe this is what he is. Quote

That would be unfortunate since they are going to have to play him or trade him. Would another team take Keith at $5M/yr without the Tigers picking up part? Probably not as he is now. Quote

A team would love to buy low on Keith but I would think that we would still ask for a pretty decent haul for him. We traded Suarez and Parades in the past to soon and I believe he could be that level of player. He is plenty big and strong enough to hit for more consistent power and it has shown that in the past. For some reason he has been off this year and I personally believe the team needs to play him more consistently, stop yanking him out of the lineup and changing positions consistently. 1 Quote
