I'm on the selling but not necessarily giving up bandwagon.   Say we traded Skubal for a MLB ready Outfielder or two.   So we improve the lineup.

You still have Valdez, Flaherty, Montero, Madden, Melton, Verlander, Mize to build a rotation depending on health/production at that point in time.  Heck Jobe might even be ready for a start or two.   If so, you could even see what Mize might bring.

While I grant that this weakens the pitching it would hopefully strengthen the offense for this year and the future.

I think there are a lot of possibilities on the table, but I would be shocked if one of them is Scott Harris blowing everything up and starting us all over from scratch à la Al Avila 2017. That’s not what he was brought here to do.

I don't have to make any decisions.  That's all on Harris.  😉

I for sure think a retool is in order. Torres, Skubal and Mize should be moved. If they get a good offer for Framber, move him too. Target two years down the road. They should of done this a while ago. The farm will produce pitchers, but we need stud prospects. Not sure if next year will happen or not, so we should plan on 2028 being our year and build according. They could have a MONSTER young team if they pull off this trade deadline properly.......

I don’t think they get anything for Torres and rather little for Mize since he is an ongoing injury risk. So is Skubal now, so the next few starts are going to be crucial for us to determine how much we can get for him and whether it is worth it at that point.

I also think they will get nothing of significance for Torres.  I suspect they will keep Mize and make a qualifying offer after the season.  Assuming they are selling, Skubal would be traded but probably nobody else of great value.  Maybe if Jansen or another reliever gets hot, they can get something but those guys aren't going to bring back a big prospect.

100% agree with every point of this.

If Mize pitches well the next few times up, he could fetch a 80-100 top prospect. Any pitcher would probably be the target. Torres could net a 100-125 prospect. Besides Arraez, there's not really anyone else that plays 2B that can/will be moved. But think of this more like a Max Anderson level type prospect.

Mize could get a pretty good return if we move him......  https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/casey-mize-663554?stats=statcast-r-pitching-mlb - This season, he's pitching like a true #2....... He's extremely valuable if he throws 3 more good starts.......

I think it’s a good idea to take advantage of desperation this trade season.  There’s a lot of teams “still in it” and with a work stoppage possible, they may gamble on themselves this year.  If you play it right, returns could be better than expected.

Probably pretty close unless Mize stays healthy and pitches well.

If I'm playing arm chair GM - I deal Skubal with the emphasis on quality  - not quantity - one honestly good MLB ready position player, I don't care about any  long shot low level throw in lottery tickers, in fact maybe we even take back a contract (since with the need to sign Skubal gone we have some flexibility) that gets us an even higher level on the key return piece. Just hang on to Mize assuming we can re-sign him at reasonable cost (hopefully the FO already has some sense of what Casey is looking for) - maybe something with a nice AAV but short term if he wants to bet on himself getting through a full season to boost his value for a 28 shot at FA.

The starting pitching can't be better with Skubal gone but there are a lot of arms in the pipeline that will probably at least be competitive - if the defend and hit they can be a good team with out Tarik. Thats why that one return piece has to be solid. Then spend all the left over cash on a couple of better bullpen pieces.

I totally agree with this. Add one true building block position player.

Skubal is #1 obviously but Torres is #14 and Mize is #16, biggest thing is the QO on Mize which will drive his price up as pointed out by the article but I wouldn't be surprised by getting back a fringe top 100 guy for him if Mize continues to pull it together.

I think people are underestimating Mizes value at the deadline.  He’s someone I could see being high on the radar for a low-budget contender like the Pirates or (gulp) the Rays.

Completely agree.  I’d rather give him the QO and get another season out of him or a draft pick vs settling.  Fans usually over-value their own players.  In Casey’s instance, I think he’s being undervalued.

I’d be perfectly fine with extending him.  But if you can fleece someone at the deadline, do it.

The thing with Casey is that he will draw deadline interest but his injury history might make in him relatively easy signing if the Tiger's keep him, so there's upside to either choice. It's possible to trade him and then sign him as a FA, but that's not going to happen often - Flaherty not withstanding.

Mize to the Rays, 3 top-5 CY seasons straight ahead

And whomever we get back will suddenly spontaneously combust during BP and McGonigle will get hurt by the collateral damage
