interesting that they rate the Guardians chances as so much better than the Sox, given how much better Chicago's run differential is. Strength of schedule I suppose(?).

Projections of individual performance.

Also only 5, out of the first wild card, 5.5 out of the 2nd, and 9 out of the first.   (They made up 5 games on the Yankees in the last 10)

Now tied with Oakland, and within a game of Baltimore and Boston). All without a real hot streak.

it sure would be nice to see an 18 out of 20 win stretch like the White Sox had earlier, but keep winning series and they will continue to make up ground.

Just keep winning and we'll gain ground on teams ahead of us as they play each other. One of them has to lose.

I thought Hinch was going to blow this one sitting on his hands while Anderson self-immolated, but he got away with it. Good win aside from that and a couple of terrible AB by Tork.  Waguespack looking like a nice pick-up. +1 Harris.

Great 2 out AB by Tork on the 6th inning helped to lead to a 4 run inning.

he had a terrible slump at the beginning of May, apart from that he's near his career averages, but he's K'g too much. He'll have a good AB then next time up he'll be back to taking strikes and swinging OOZ. If he'd swing at more of what he could hit and less of what he can't he'd be a different player. Of course, if pigs had wings.....

I wouldn't even think about the WC, too many other teams involved - it's probably win the division or bust.

But most of the teams ahead of us are all below .500. As they play each other, it's our chance to catch them. As well as when we play them. Like I said, just keep winning and the standing will take care of themselves. If Ramirez comes back, I could see Cleveland winning the division. Making the WC seems a little more realistic, at least for now.

he played up to the edge about as close as you can, but if they are going to comeback from this deficit they need that kind of luck to keep it going.  Of course Hao Yu Lee could have just fielded the ball also. Anderson is going to give his manager ulcers though - plenty to like about the stuff but reliability is lacking.

Anderson was the right guy for that situation. We were not going to use Holton or Sommers to face that mainly right-handed lineup, we'd already used Finnegan, and we had plans to use Waguespack later. Anderson plunked a couple guys and that sucks, got he unlucky on the error, which should have ended the inning, but he still came out of it with only a hit, no walks, and two strikeouts on the A's, plus he had a five-run lead. Not saying you here, necessarily, but any implication that Hinch was happy to gamble away the game by keeping Anderson in for the whole inning would be at best a misunderstanding of the situation.

Overall, Anderson has performed as advertised. He strikes out guys better than anyone else on the team, keeps walks in check, and keeps the ball on the ground when it's hit. On balance, I've been happy with him.

We are down to 5 teams in front of us for the last spot, 2 of which are within a game of us.  And it would be easy to argue that we project to be better than each of those teams the rest of the way.  I don't think the Wild Card is that crazy of a reach, especially since 2 of the teams ahead of us for the 2nd Wild Card slot are in our division and we are only 5 1/2 games out of that spot.  A hot streak would be nice, but even .600 ball which we've been playing since June, and IMO is sustainable if we don't add more significant injuries, is very likely to get us there.

If you look at his FB charts on FG, it's come up a lot since the beginning of the season and then bounced around some. Almost like there is still something he's been tweaking on the fly. Or maybe he's just got deep biorhythms....
