One precedent would be that when Holland was 'promoted' out of the GM job, he pretty much had nothing to do other than hang around till retirement or go somewhere else - which he did.

I don't want Draper as GM.  I don't want any ex-Red Wing players at GM or Coach.   We need an outsider.      Enough sentimentality.     It worked - for a while - with Joe Dumars -  who found broken pieces of other teams and built something great - and then Joe lost his touch (Charlie V and Ben Gordon, anyone?).    I don't want a player that I enjoyed watching - coming back and then being the whipping boy when it doesn't go right.     I hate that it ends like this for Yzerman, but it needed to happen.  It should have happened the day after the season ended.  

Then Scott Harris did the exact same thing with the Tigers at the 2025 trade deadline.   A bunch of garbage - when the team was having a great season.    **** the Future.  You go for it when you're close.  I have no regrets over Doyle Alexander for John Smoltz.   Smoltz would not have become a star pitcher if he stayed with the Tigers anyway.  Last year we were one good hitter away from beating the Mariners and getting into the ALCS and I think we could have given the Blue Jays a run.     Paul Sewald, Charlie Morton and Chris Paddack.  That's disgusting.  (Oooh, Kyle Finnegan, big deal...) That was near fireable right there.    Sat on their hands like the Orioles and look at them now - bottom feeders again - something the Tigers have been much of this season

 

I want a total outsider to take over for the Wings.   What's Draper going to do - the same philosophy as Yzerman.

I think the Wings should trade Larkin and DeBrincat, and take futures for them. Only trade Gibson and others if it's worth it. They should be fine after that,  and work to keep the roster younger and fast.

It depends on who the team is, but if we're rebuilding, 4 1st round picks is a very tempting offer. If is from a team that might still be drafting in the teens or early 20s over the next year or two, that's even more tempting.

I'd probably take the picks but I'm probably a little lower on Edvinsson than most people.  In reality it's tough to say without even having a GM.

I would match...I think Edvinsson has a bit of offensive upside ...lising him definitely sets you back unless you can parlay those 4 picks into something better

i dont think they have much of a choice but to match unless they are REALLY going full tank.

they've put themselves in a bad spot by not getting this thing wrapped up early.

We have no idea if they have tried to extend him or not.  I'm guessing his agent has been in no rush to get it done.  Carlsson's agent admitted that the Ducks tried really hard to get his extension signed way early and multiple times, but the agents slow walked everything so that they could get him eligible for offer sheets and see if the other RFA players like Bedard would sign.  And with all of the RFA's currently unsigned it seems like a popular move for the agents right now.

true.  regardless of who is driving the delay, it is not helpful.

i dont know who is the big cause to the delay, but given his past history or driving such a hard bargain with larkin, seider, and raymond, my money is on yzerman.

His last two seasons in Philly were a lot like Simon's points-wise, though Drysdale scored more in one season and Edvinsson has slightly more if you combine the two seasons.  Edvinsson plays slightly more minutes but Drysdale has drastically better fancy/possession stats than Edvinsson.  A lot of that is due to Edvinsson getting way harder zone starts than Drysdale though.  So a lot of give and take here, but I would say they are comparable players with Drysdale being less than a year older than Edvinsson.  Edvinsson's stats also take a big hit when Seider isn't paired with him (Seider takes a minuscule hit when not with Simon which shows that he's the one really driving things).  It would personally be tough for me to swallow him at a 12 million per year contract but I know other people rate him more than me.

I still think they were a better team overall with them splt. When Mclelland first came in and split them was when I thought the wings were playing their best overall game.

No offense to 70 year olds, but as a 59 year old I feel I only have 11 more years of active fandom before I become one of those geezers living in the past watching VHS of late 1990s games from a lazy-boy in my basement. Rebuild, fine, but uh, could we get a move on please! 🙂

WhWhen Edvinsson was out,  the Wings really missed him. He's valuable.  I just want him locked up.
