lordstanley Posted July 23 Posted July 23 Tigers win! 4-2 road trip to start the post-ASG part of the season. Didn’t make up much ground but does set up the Tigers nicely for a more favourable 16-game stretch. 1 Quote
IdahoBert Posted July 23 Posted July 23 This feels really good. Winning this series on the road against a very good team is a big deal. I am happier than it is probably rational for me to be. 1 Quote

I guess my point of it being unfair to the team is that Hinch tells guys they have to keep winning so players dont get traded. If that's the case, Hinch owes it to the team to put the best possible team out there. And looking past Valdez's worse 3 starts just magnifies his inconsistency. Can he really ever be counted on? But, in all fairness, it's really nice having Montero in the bullpen. He comes in for quality multiple innings. So yeah, I guess either way, just having him on the staff is a win win situation. Oh, I'm not saying its a right to bump Montero for Valdez. Just illustrating that Valdez hasn't been a complete bust every time out. I do like having Montero's availability for the bullpen. It'd be great to have another couple of arms like that, although maybe with some more swing and miss. Quote

He wasn't the first player essentially traded for themselves - long time forum members will definitely know the first player - Harry Chiti Good pull on Chiti. Dickie Noles was the Cub then Tiger then Cub. Quote

Having Montero in the pen may actually be better than having him start every 5th day. He can help protect leads 2 or 3 times in a 5 day span. And I agree about the lack of swing and miss. He seems to pitch to contact and I'm not sure if he can continue getting weak contact. But he pounds the strike zone, that's something I really like. Quote
romad1 Posted July 23 Posted July 23 Tork with 2 hits. Carp with A hit. If that guy gets hot he's 1980s Kirk Gibson without the wheels. Hao Yu Lee is really emerging as a man of hitterly talents. Quote

The player that was traded for ended up being the player to be named later. I thought it was Moreland, but it’s another player. I’ll offer 3,912 points (the points ain’t redeemable for diddly freaking pooh) to whomever comes up with the answer. dickie noles. strange coincidence -- noles had been in a trade earlier in his career for keith moreland Edit: didn't see that many others responded already. Whether or they can catch up in two months remains to be seen, but they are playing like a team that should be in the playoffs. 1 Quote
