JackMorrisStache Posted August 2 Posted August 2 Any chance the Tigers sign Tarik after he wins the WS in October? Really bummed he’s gone, but understand the decision. Quote
holygoat Posted August 2 Posted August 2 Dickerson just now reporting the Skubal trade. The A's crew had it the moment it broke. Quote

Don’t include me in that group. Just live in the real world and don’t want Skubal leaving for nothing. I think the playoffs are still in play. Skubal was only one guy and we don’t know what other moves are happening. Quote

(and assume another team didn’t offer us better). Hope himself is better than the 30-40 range pick. We could only hope (haha) to get a pick in that range that is similar to now, currently, the #25 overall MLB prospect. Ryan is not more valuable than that pick. But he has good "stuff", and maybe can be "Fetterized", and turned into a mid-to-backend rotation guy. If not, I think he'd be very effective out of the bullpen. He's got 4 or 5 plus pitches, not the best control... Fetter can work some magic on him. But he better work quickly as Ryan's already 27 (missed a year+ to TJ). Taken together, Hope and Ryan are definitely worth more than one pick in that range. Add in Brady Smith who is similar to Ryan but only 21 and currently struggling in High-A and... It's a valid package that beats the one pick 30-40. Was hoping for a little bit more but, this will suffice. Disappointing, only and specifically, in comparison to some of the other names that were floating around (even though those were only media speculation...). Quote
Tenacious D Posted August 2 Posted August 2 Removing Skubal’s salary provides much more flexibility to buy, if they choose to do that. 1 Quote
Hongbit Posted August 2 Posted August 2 (edited) I love Hope. It’s going to be fun watching him and Clark together in the OF. I wish they would’ve gotten better pitching than a 27 year old prospect coming off TJ and a single A pitcher. They should’ve waited it out a day more. It’s a slightly better than avergw package which is what should be expected from a front office that is slightly better than average too. Edited August 2 by Hongbit Quote

Hongbit Posted August 2 Posted August 2 Interested to see if they deal Mize too. He will be in high demand from every team in the NL race. Quote
chasfh Posted August 2 Posted August 2 I know some people won’t be happy with this deal, but this is about the best I thought Harris could get. We can only hope now it works out for us. 1 Quote

Tenacious D Posted August 2 Posted August 2 An upside to Ryan is that he has the obligatory TJ surgery out of the way (2025). 1 Quote

monkeytargets39 Posted August 2 Posted August 2 I’m just not understanding acquiring a left handed hitter as the big piece. Maybe there’s some other stuff in the works, but we are desperate for competent RH bats. Quote
IdahoBert Posted August 2 Posted August 2 The Tigers had to move the obstacle that Skubal represented so all the other deals could take place, additional deals that they’re working on - and everyone else. Hope something good comes out of this. Quote
Dan Gilmore Posted August 2 Posted August 2 I think the real question is how many decades the team has been (choose one) set back/launched forward. jk, 1 Quote
monkeytargets39 Posted August 2 Posted August 2 Finnegan should’ve been added to the deal for free Quote

I don't believe I've seen anyone post that the Tigers have NO chance... I think I've only seen "chances are very low the way they are playing" or something similar in that vein... and therefore it just makes more team-building sense to get a higher return for Skubal than one QO comp pick. That's just being practical. IMO. And I'm with others that think the Tigers will STILL have a chance at the playoffs this year even if they sell off a few pending free agents. I'm not down on our chances at all... although they do need to start winning at a much higher rate if they want to have any chance of getting in. IMO. Quote
