ann arbor's 107one will be playing this song this evening, just after 7pm - to honor the 29 who died that night.

When Lightfoot died the bells of the Maritime Cathedral rang 30 times...29 for the men on the ship and 1 for Gordon Lightfoot

This was released earlier this year but not available to stream until now. Given the recent R&R HOF induction it seems relevant.  I heard it's going to only be on YouTube for a week.  I saw clips over the months but yesterday I got to watch the whole thing.  Check it out.

If he had released that song now,  people would nit pick every detail and attack him for even the slightest mistake.   He took some minor liberties for the sake of the song and making the rhyme and meter work, but people would try to destroy him now.    It's like people can't wait to get offended and they are looking for anything to set it off.

"At 7pm the main hatchway gave in".............LIGHTFOOT SHOULD BE CANCELLED, IT HAPPED AT 7:13, THAT BASTARD"

Todd Snider died. WTF man. If you're into Americana or indie rock like I am you'll know about Todd.

I see he was assaulted in Utah, he died from complications. I wonder what that was all about out.

I am out of reactions, unfortunately, but big Like for this one.

aw, man, I just heard about this today. it's not like I was a major fan, only have one album, but I really appreciated his songwriting whenever I'd dig it out. I've always especially liked his cover of "The Joker". "Doublewide Blues" was another good one from that album.

New Cheap Trick is out. No wheel reinvention. Some solid rockers. One quirky number to close it out. Not too shabby for a bunch of guys in their 70s (plus one 45-year-old whippersnapper)

No Bun E. Carlos, though, right?

No. Technically still part of the band. He tracks and posts setlists, rare recordings etc. but hes just physically unable to tour due to his back.

Drummers take a beating every bit as much as their drums.     They are the Catchers of rock music.   They are usually the smartest guy in the band and they control the pace and a lot of them are hidden behind a bunch of equipment.

A friend of mine does a foo fighters tribute band and at one show they also had a cheap trick band. When I watched I was surprised tnat I only knew one or two songs (they didn’t play The flame). I wonder if my lack of interest and knowledge is an age thing. I am 52. Did I miss them by just a few years?  Like if  I was 55 I would care?  I like exploring things like that. The cutoff point.

Put Live at Budokan on with headphones and listen with no distractions. Try to find the Full Concert version if you don't want to listen to the YouTube video I’ll link below.

Usually a bands most popular songs are my least favorite and I’ll skip them every time (I’m looking at you “Dream On” and “Rock N Roll All Night”)

But I never skip the live version of “I Want You To Want Me” because the girls singing the echo “crying crying crying” gives me chills. Its just mind blowing how loud and into it they were.

They were relatively unknown in the US but Japan loved them. That album was never supposed to see the light of day outside Japan.

I saw a reel that pointed out that Cheap Trick was offered either The Flame or Look Away. "Pick one of these, the other I'm going to give to Chicago" was the direction.  I was 15 at the time and spent many nights at the skating rink the summer of '88 hearing that over and over again.

Thanks for the suggestion.  I am going to try that now.

Pay attention to the drumming (especially on Elo Kiddies and Auf Weidersein”). He is simply amazing. So much swing.

If you like Cheap Trick you should go seek out music from The Lemon Twigs.  Especially the album "A Dream Is All We Know".  Plenty of Cheap Trick/Badfinger/Big Star/Brian Wilson vibes.   And they don't do anything digitally - it's all manual to tape recording.

That was indeed awesome. CT has always worn their fandom on their sleeve.

Joan Osborne singing Lovely Rita didn’t suck! I never knew that was her as her alto voice sounded very dudeish but she did a phenomenal job.

Couldn’t listen today. Someone in China doesn’t understand it’s thanksgiving week and also that just because your calendar is free it doesn’t mean you aren’t busy.

I liked her singing but the song felt weirdly rushed.
