4/29 10:10 Tigers @ Dodgers

So if 2021 is prologue with this team, they basically snapped out of their offensive funk on a trip they made to a play a difficult team (Boston) where, while they dropped 2 of 3, they put of 7, 6, and 9 runs in succession. And that series happened to fall in proximity to 2021 NFL Draft Weekend.

Does that moment happen this weekend? Color me skeptical lol

Its not lost, not at all.  They're only 4.5 games out.  But the offense needs to get its act together.

Right. As for this series, it's hard to expect them to win the series or anything, but I would accept just any evidence that they are moving in the right direction offensively... maybe steal a game, but just show something on offense.

For as bad as the Tigers have been, this has been a pretty brutal opening schedule. It doesn't absolve them of their poor play, especially given that they've frittered away at least a couple of winnable games (two that come to mind are the Barnhart drop game against NYY and Tuesday's game against MIN) but they've played some teams that are pretty difficult and, in the case of Colorado, may have caught them at the wrong time.

Looking ahead on the schedule, May could tell the tale on which way this team goes, ie. whether they can overperform expectations or whether they struggle just to get close to .500.... they have more favorable draws (2 against Pittsburgh, 5 against Oakland, 3 against Baltimore ), some draws with good teams who are underperforming expectations (4 against Houston, 3 against Tampa), and a whole slug of games against divisional opponents Cleveland and Minnesota. It's a slate of games where they, theoretically, should be able to make up some ground. But, like you say, they need to get their act together.

It's going to take a miracle. How often do they win a series against the Angels, who are half the team the Dodgers are? Then again, it might at least be warm....

The runs scored is horrendous. OBP is not bad, SLG is . Those who have argued for more offense are right. When an MLB team is scoring less than 4 runs per game, as this team is through 18 games, wins will be hard to come by. Even more telling, is that their is no phase of the game this team is excelling in currently.

and ironically, we have a ton of injuries, but to pitchers - we are only down one expected front line hitter in Greene.

It kinda depends on what "lost" means to people.

If lost means missing the playoffs, then yeah, it would take a miracle. If it means ".500 ball", I still think they have a decent chance for that.

The big thing is that, just as they got going offensively last year, I don't think the anemic offense will last forever.

I kind of want to say the pitching is doing pretty well in spite of missing some arms.

Take out the 13-0 game and they are barely over 2 runs/game.

The offense will come eventually. The persistent problems with outfield defense are not getting fixed. Two of the guys are our best hitters. The infield defense and sloppiness will correct itself if the Castros don't play as much. But that depends on Jeimer and Schoop hitting.

Tigers give up a stolen base to the 1st Dodger base runner.

Tyler hadn't held him, but Barnhart also made a terrible throw that never would have gotten him.

And then of course, Tyler gives up a HR. 2-0 in the 1st. Well at least the steal ended up not mattering.

0-2 Changeup over the heart of the plate. Never throw a hittable pitch 0-2. Ever.
