  1. Past hour
  2. Makes sense, federal fraud is much more profitable.
  3. i understand your point. but "setting your boss straight" isnt always so easy. he can offer advice and gores may choose not to take it. langdon wont quit even if gores overrules him.
  4. Perhaps the 2024 rebound was because the pressure was off thinking the season was over thus allowing them to play free and once they got rolling their confidence grew ? Or I could be spewing nonsense.
  5. A baseball team is all about building player/talent capital. If you are starting from a point where you don't have a lot, the resources available in a single off-season to collect more may not be enough for all you need. Likewise, until you can build up enough talent capital that you have more than you can put on the field at one time, trading is pretty much a zero sum game because it's hard not to end up giving up something you still need to get something you want. It's a long process, like building up your bank account, and the worst thing you can do for the long term is make some kind of splashy trade that actually moves you backwards by making your team older and shallower.
  6. And right now they're 0 for 3 on those.
  7. I've got more faith in Keith than Tork......but it's close
  8. Does anyone here think that if Tork and Keith were playing for the Guardians or Brewers or Rays that they would be performing better ? Am I wrong to feel that way ? And McStinky must be injured to the point he can not play shortstop. No other reason Zack is here without his attack.
  9. I haven't yet listened to the Pride of Detroit podcasters break this down yet and how this all played out. It does seem a little far-fetched that a businessman like Rod Wood would be solely making a football decision like this. If the original tweet was wrong or misrepresented the situation, then it was.
  10. lol kidding. After Riley that lineup is where rallies go to die.
  11. I’d love to see an “umm off” between Brad Holmes and Trajan. Over/Under of 200 umms at least.
  12. So, they just should have assumed that there would be no pitching injuries? Olson was not healthy at any point in the off-season and Melton was somewhat of an unknown. You need at least 7 starters on your roster going into the season.
  13. Teams employing reporters is still weird to me. It was around 70 people. This new owner is supposedly trying to hire a coach for $1 million a year.
  14. I don't understand the obsession with home runs. I think he is a game changer...but he can't do it by himself. Trout never could either and he hits plenty of home runs.
  15. Comparing Langdon to Weaver strengthens my claim about incompetence. I'm not saying Gores doesn't intervene. I'm saying it's on Langdon to set him straight when he does. The guy that has been around basketball his entire life. The guy who has been in a front office role for over a decade. Like he did when he convinced Gores to fire Monte.
  16. They needed hitting, but they also needed pitching and they had a limited budget. Maybe they did pursue a hitter and they couldn't find one that wanted to sign for what they were able to offer. Or maybe they tried to get one in a trade, but teams did not have a reasonable asking price. Or maybe they decided that Valdez and Jansen would improve their run prevention more than the best available hitter would improve their offense. I was pretty happy with the team going into the season. I was still happy after April, but then the injuries piled up. You should know that I am not a Harris slappy, and I was pretty unhappy with the off-season before they got Valdez. I thought he would make a big difference and he still might. I still don't know what hitter you think they could have gotten that would have changed everyting.
  17. The Good Place had the best joke about this. I had no idea they were actually nefarious.
  18. The problem was the players available and that they probably didn't want to come to Detroit.
  19. McGonigle is a nice little hitter but isn't going to provide any power. He's on pace for 7 home runs. He's not going to be a game changer, especially with a bunch of guys who can't hit around him. The only reason I didn't like the Valdez signing is He's an average guy who relies on ground balls coming to a team with very limited range and defensive ability in the infield.
  20. Again, it's not the fact that they use advanced stats to help them make decisions. Its the incorrect use of them thats the problem. It was really, really obvious last season that our offense needed serious help. We had an off-season to sign or trade for needed help. We didn't sign or trade for anyone. That's a failure...whether they used some secret formula or whatever. Luckily, there's still plenty of season left. We need to get Javy and Carp back. Short and Perez are worse than black holes. They're hopeless.
  21. he's done it before. weaver didnt want monty and gores oveeruled him personally.
  22. Ugh...first off, they signed Valdez BEFORE they had pitching injuries. Olson was still being counted on, so was an effective Flaherty. As well as Melton. So current injuries, while predictable, arent the reason they signed Valdez. But hitting WAS a known problem and that problem was ignored. You cant say McGonigle was their answer to our hitting because nobody knew he was even going to be on the team. Its like....one strawman argument after another.
  23. I didn't say everything was fine and wonderful. What I am saying is that they would be a worse organization without analytics. If other teams are using it better than them (I don't know if they are), that would be a problem though.
  24. Yes, that is why I said I was happy that the Tigers had finally embraced analytics, but I wasn't sure whether or not Harris (and company) was a good GM compared to other analytic GMs. The lack of international talent is a problem. I am not sure if that is left over from the previous administration or whether it's an ongoing problem.
  25. I'm not a GM. I don't make trades. Same as Harris...he doesnt make trades. But yeah. You're right, everything is fine and wonderful because everyone uses analytics.
