My wife Mary (27th anniversary was a couple of weeks ago) has breast cancer. She found out she had it on the same day she found out that I likely gave her Covid, in late April. She was detected early, thank god, but it took 2 surgeries for them to get rid of the cancer, and now she is going through chemo. She's now more than halfway done with the chemo, so she's rounding 2nd base in a way. We are holding up well. It's been a big help having my son home during this trying time. We appreciate any thoughts and prayers. Thank you.1 point

I feel like that part of the south park movie where they realize they can swear...... it's about to get really interesting in here.1 point

I didn't hear any context that would lead me to believe he was talking about the Mr. I era. His "drunken sailor" comment came across as talking about reckless spending in general to me.1 point

I’d much prefer a contraction of the number of teams over expansion. We attended a game in Charlotte this year. It was our first trip to the new park. It was the last NC MLB affiliated minor league park on my list where I had not attended a game. As congested as that area is I couldn’t imagine a MLB park there. I also can’t imagine walking away from as nice a facility as the Knights play in to put one elsewhere in Charlotte. I have always opposed having a MLB team in North Carolina.1 point

Avila talking about the player development overhaul saying they need to bring in people who can teach how to teach using the new equipment. Player development is the key and they have moved to the upper echelon. Plus anytime Hinch speaks you know the team is in good hand.1 point

All joking aside, framing the Mike Ilitch era in relation to the deportment of a “drunken sailor” is an extremely disrespectful and impolitic thing to do, regardless of how accurate this description may be in an off the cuff sort of way. Being off the cuff in this manner about Mr. I seems unprofessional. Al Avila should be capable of a less caustic, less derisive way of framing the Mr. I era. The fact that he didn't speaks volumes, presumably, about the way he and Chris Ilitch view that era. We have all been gnashing our teeth about it for years but most of us aren’t managing an asset of the magnitude of the Detroit Tigers and I would expect a more circumspect manner of phrasing things than a low blow about a “drunken sailor” would imply.1 point

Contraction is nothing more than owners using leverage to gain something. It would never happen.1 point

I’m not proud of rooting for teams that would rain on the parades of the entitled teams and their fan bases and the corporate entities that feed off these marque events. It’s like being a dog who if he can’t eat something buries it so no other dog can have it. But I’m OK being like this. I’m not proud of it but I’m OK with it.1 point

That would be the best solution (of all the ones that would have any chance of happening). Take the top three teams in each division. Give the division winners a first round bye. No wildcards. If you aren't good enough to finish in the top three, then you don't deserve it.1 point

It is so insane I love it! Is there a way to do spoilers on this new board? Was going to talk about the episode we just watched but I don't want to spoil anything1 point

I played for the Senators for two years. Yes, I’m that old. And we were terrible. All my youth baseball teams were last place, every one. I played on one team called the SuperSonics. I hated it because we were the only team without a big league name. The Macomb Daily misspelled our team name as “Supersonies” whenever they published the standings. One game, on my birthday no less, we were shelled by the Shell Cubs, 30-1. I don’t think they would let a youth baseball game get out of hand like that anymore. We finished 0-14. I hated playing organized youth baseball. I loved playing summer morning overhand-lob sandlot ball instead, with the same group of friends, just enough to field two teams while still having to close off right field to hitters. That’s where I honed my admittedly meager skills.1 point

Nothing wrong with a little schadenfreude, But would you enjoy seeing the Red Sox fail in a one game WC matchup, or on a grander stage? Seeing despair in the faces of the fans of a team that we loath can be very gratifying1 point

I think it's enjoyable to watch baseball for a couple weeks without the heavy emotional investment of wondering what my team will do next to screw things up. I actually enjoyed seeing JV, Max, and J.D. win their rings...1 point

Ha haaa, I knew someone would bite! 😆 I don’t have the same hatred of the White Sox some here have. I root against them when the Tigers have at least a mathematical chance, of course, but as long as we’re out of it I’m fine with them, I think maybe because they’re the neglected little brother in this city, and I’m sympathetic to that kind of underdog.0 points
