  1. It was fine. They were in front of the dugout and all the seats there are bolted down.

  2. this why you want guys who can hit pitching from either side. You can't count on getting the match-up you want when you need it.

  3. not even the scoring aspect - he's an asset that you are still in protect mode with - he'd thrown too many pitches in the inning. Hinch has this tendency to sometimes go all old school with his pitchers - "stay out there - fight through it till you get it." Unfortunately that's a sentiment for a bygone era. All that does for you today is send guys to the DL.

  4. And that philiosophy is nuts to me. I don't care what other people remember. Peronally, I have an easier time rememberng which teams have been best all year long than which teams won each World Series. I just looked at the list of the last ten champions and I barely remembered that Washington won the World Series. What I remember more was that the Dodgers and Astros were better teams. But it's more than that. When I think back to the 1984 Tigers. I remember them winning the World Series, but what I remember just as much is them being unbeatable for the first 40 games and them being the best all around Tigers team of my lifetime for 171 games.

  5. He doesn’t seem to have the same bulldog attitude he had before the surgery…. I thought it was going to over as soon as he gets up by 4 runs

  10. • The Orioles, Marlins, Rays, Astros and Diamondbacks have shown interest in Detroit starters Eduardo Rodriguez and Michael Lorenzen. The Tigers are looking for everyday position players in return and won’t be afraid to put Rodriguez and Lorenzen in the same deal if that delivers the prospects they want. From Jim Bowden

  11. Mets get Acuna's younger brother for Scherzer. Top 100 and #3 prospect from Texas. I wonder if Harris will try the 1 for 1 approach. We need quality over quantity.

  12. A team can SAY that they build for championships, but they really can't. All you can do is put a team on the field that wins enough games to get into post-season. Once the post-season starts, it is a crapshoot.

  13. I see a lot of tweeters talking about the Tigers trying to get Alek Thomas. It originated from a sports radio host in AZ with a lot of followers. It doesn't seem likely though.

  14. that's true. The original B10 and Pac10 were AAU conferences. That became part of the controversy over Nebraska, which had been an AAU member but got booted before switching conferences to the B10. The B10 consoled itself that NEB was booted for purely 'political' reasons so it wasn't really making an exception to bring Neb in. It's still the only non-AAU member of the conference. 50-60 years ago the you might have been able to make a case that the AAU schools did run their programs to different standards, but that was ancient history by the time the PAC10 decisisions referenced above were being made (~2011)

  15. Pet Peeve: the SAD EMOJI. It should be labled "welp", or 'gulp", as something like that is closer to the emotion the graphic actually portrays.

  17. I agree we need more talent but I question if these AAA players are the answer. We need to replace several players on the 26 man roster. Yes, you named a few but there are several more who won't be around next season. Cisnero? Trade or release him.

  18. Really would have liked to see AJ get in an umps face on that bad call. I get that it wouldnt have changed anything, but show some passion, show that you'll fight for when your guys get jobbed. This team could use some emotion, some fire, when it's actually called for imo.

  19. Offense put up 6 runs, so is what it is. I'm slightly concerned over Skubal seeming to fall apart at the sign of some adversity/giving up runs...and he also seems to lack focus on being a complete pitcher defensively. That 5th inning was real bad for him, and it wasnt just the pitching.

  21. looking back at the failed run down I'm not sure why Short threw the ball, He was closing on Berti and almost certainly could have just made the tag. It was being so close that left him in a position for Berti to take advanatage.

  22. I still want someone to punch Berti in the face.

  23. Watched it again—Berti looked back to see where Short was, and he use his arms to help trip up Short! I guess it ain't cheatin' if you don't get caught, but, just ... wow. I've never seen anything similar before.

  26. This is exaclty where we find out if Harris has the stuff to bring this team back to prominence or not. He has to be able to win in all three phrases - drafting and development, FA, and trading. If he can't produce some useful return out such a golden opportunity as ERod an Lorenzen represent, we are doomed.

  31. https://twitter.com/darrenrovell/status/1685454700768862208?s=20 Max Scherzer will become the first athlete in sports history to be paid at least $15 million by three different teams in a single year. Washington Nationals: $15 Million New York Mets: $28 Million Texas Rangers: $15 Million

  38. Looking good Ann Arbor and really looking good Traverse City. Probably has something to do with the quality of medical care in A2 and the degree to which Traverse City is one of those destination retirement areas for people with a little bit of cash and some sense. Meanwhile Wisconsin and Minnesota look really good in comparison.

  39. It's a tie game, potential for extra innings, and we just wasted a backup infielder on an unsuccessful platoon pinch hitting appearance. Remember his post-game excuse when he sent up Haase instead of Cabrera? "I didnt have an infielder", a self inflicted wound after wasting Ibanez as a pinch hitter.

  40. How the American healthcare system has become primarily a discount dispenser for healthy people. I went to the dermatologist for my annual. The list price of the visit was $175. The cost to me was $101. So basically, the $1,300/month we are paying for health insurance got me a 42% discount on the visit. Since our annual deductible is up into the five figures, only a major health issue will allow us to get our insurance company to pay for anything beyond a negotiated discount for medical services. The only real benefit of health insurance in America is as a hedge against really expensive diseases, and not even all of those qualify.
