So, I was watching the Tigers/Astros game Saturday where they featured a group of guys that travel to a game together every year and I immediately thought, hmm I wonder if those guys are from that MotownSports forum I used to frequent. I clicked on the bookmark I had saved and it sent me to some gambling site. I thought, holy Pete Rose, this isn't the place. So I used my limited tech skills and searched for y'all. Here we are. Been a while eh? What's new? 😏3 points

They also buy those products at Walmart, hate people of color and immigrants. We shouldn't listen to people like that.2 points

I cannot believe it has been 40 years! I delivered the Detroit News in the afternoon and would read the stories and scan every box score bit by bit through my route. I would try to catch both CNN's Sports Tonight and ESPN's SportsCenter recaps each night. From 35-5, to Morris' no hitter early on, to the title, it was a genuinely magical season. One of the great North American Champions that never got the attention they were due. In part because, outside of Sparky, Gibby and Morris, everyone was a low-key professional. Not trying to be negative, but the gap between 1968 and 1984 was 16 years. The gap between 1984 and the next title will be 3 times as long (or maybe they never win it again in my lifetime). There's has been a lot of good baseball, and a whole lot more bad baseball in the last 40 years, but the 1984 team literally made me a fan for life.1 point

I was pretty much hooked at birth. The first article of clothing I have any recollection of owning was a complete wool toddler Tiger Uniform, with stirrups. Funny thing is that my father was not a big baseball fan, but everyone else around growing up was. The first season I remember as a season was '61 - winning 101 and coming up 8 games short of the damn Yankees. I was just a little squirt but understood that winning 100 was supposed to be enough to get a pennant. The other funny thing was how few people went to the games. The population of the city was nearly 2 million in the early 60's and Baseball was still king, but the '61 team drew only 1.6M, and '68 team just barely 2M. Even with the exodus from Det, get anywhere near 1st place now and you can expect 3M for a season.1 point

The Lorenzen spin from the Tigers has been interesting, given his lack of market and subsequent paycut this past offseason.1 point

I ordered it, but haven't started reading yet. It is next on my list. I got a chance to chat with the author Tom Gage on the phone recently about another book he is writing. He wanted my opinion on a statistical formula he was using to rank players. He was very humble. He said he was sorry to bother me and glad that I remembered him. Really? Gage is a Detroit media legend.1 point

It's been a ridiculously long construction. and it's not even that far behind schedule. The long build was mostly waiting for each section of concrete to harden as the towers went up. They probably could have built a conventional suspension bridge faster, but cable stayed design costs less and this is not a project where time was money to any great degree.1 point

Have we found out which Well-Regulated Militia Michael Nash was part of yet?1 point

Will be interesting going forward how today impacts Rory with fans. Americans respect someone that can man up and face the cameras even after crushing defeat. Rory did just the opposite. I personally don’t blame him at all based on how bad that ended but it wasn’t a great look declining to speak afterwards and getting caught on camera burning out of the parking lot before the trophy ceremony even ended. I don’t even think he congratulated Bryson. On the other hand, we love a good comeback story and Rory has been very popular so people may actually rally around him and show even more love.1 point

Apparently ESPN doesn't have access to any photos of Buggs in a Chiefs uniform.1 point

bogey-bogey-par-bogey is never a good way to finish the final 4 holes of a tournament. But the people chanting "USA USA USA" after Rory missed the putt were complete assholes. At the Ryder Cup that is fine but no place for it on the normal tour IMO.1 point
