waiting to see if my son is going to be part of the cuts. He gets SSI, Medicaid, and an additional supplement of like $85 a month explicitly for food. I'll admit to using it as fodder for maga family members so they can see who their cruelty affects and wait for them to say things like "well, that's not what it's about..." It makes all the difference in the world when the person affected is sitting in the room. They shut the **** up at that point. and if he is, he'll be fine obviously. But we had to explain to my mother in law that no, people like him don't get more money if they don't have family to help and live with. We were showing how the $1000 a month is a pittance when you factor in rent and food. She seemed to think he'd get more. Nope. That's the socialism your folks rail against. Your grandson.3 points

Realistically, no team is really ever full force this day and age. Gone are the days of 3 SP's pitching 200 innings on a team and 7-8 position players starting 150+ games per year. Just simply the facts that take many of us who have followed the game for awhile (myself included) - a bit of time to come to this realization. It is good to have a lot of depth. Organizations are now much more aware of this. What baseball could do, to help alleviate some of the injuries? IMHO, is to have a few less games, maybe 28 man rosters, scheduled by-weekend ends a couple times each year for every team (not no baseball played, just different teams getting a weekend off, like what football does) and maybe a couple other things. Yes, it is about money from the viewpoint of some, but people want to see the star players 'play'. Maximum efforts, especially with Ps, requires optimum recovery time. Athletes are only as good and consistent as the allotted recovery time will allow. Actual rest and nutrition are also factors. The trainers are much more versed on these things now - but the actual time off is still 'not' there IMHO. How could the players of yesteryear do it? I suspect one reason was that their bodies were not in the same peak physical condition as many of the players of today are. A well peaked physical player (strength, speed, nutrition, etc.) that plays 5 days in a row is simply putting more demand on the body than a player of 25, 40+ years ago - that was not in the same physical condition. I am 'not' saying the players did not play hard years ago and many were great players. I am saying today the players are more and are more precise with their conditioning and peaking their skills by means of greater knowledge of physiology and use of certain technologies. Their body fat is also lower. They are simply 'overall' expending more energy with the games and conditioning than the players of before ever did. IMHO, that is 'part' of it.1 point

The Billy and Reggie show was a hit for a few years in the 70s. As a kid in the 70s, the mlb all-star game was more relevant than Christmas1 point

We've shared notes about our SSI family members. The money involved is not that much given the good it does. Certainly a lot less than the tax cuts will be.1 point

Tanner Bibee has 35 strikeouts in 51 innings. And, he has given up 11 home runs. Why, that's even more than Jack Flaherty! He is going to get pummeled.1 point

if one cares about internet comments many people in the arab/muslim community around me feel like this was a mossad operation. But I will play devils advocate and say that it's convenient to say that when someone on "your side" does something bad, we just write it off as a crazy person, but when someone on the "other side" does something bad, we say it's part of their idealogy. I'll go on record and say that I'm certain there's people in the leadership that are not upset over this other than how it reflects their own interests in getting aid and solutions. But dead Israelis? They don't care and they don't mourn.1 point

obviously, you cannot expect a wacko murderer to make rational choices, but he just made everything worse and how long before "campus protestors" tell us how invigorated they now feel? IsraAID, an Israel-based non-governmental organization, said the event in Washington, DC, where two Israeli staff members were shot dead was focused on humanitarian aid for Gaza. The event, where IsraAID members were keynote speakers, “focused on bringing humanitarian aid to Gaza through Israeli-Palestinian and regional collaboration,” the NGO said in a statement Thursday.1 point

The space nerd in me was geeking out big time during the last episode of Last of Us. Minor nitpick, the Apollo 15 capsule is in Dayton at the Wright Patterson museum. And it's kind of gutted as they reused some hardware. But the audio they used of the Apollo 11 launch was correct. That's the guy. Jack King is his name. Two ways to spot a legitimate countdown is if they say "Guidance is internal" at 15 seconds and "Ignition Sequence Start" right after he gets to 9 seconds.1 point

Like for VegasTiger, that's 8:35 here. wtf. fortunately, it's a home game, so it should be available on mlb.tv with the 97.1 radio overlay some hours after the fact. assuming the Tigers win, I probably won't even watch it until early evening.1 point

Can't wait to watch the Flop-A-Lympics when SGA meets Brunson in the NBA Finals. They should put Embiid and Harden on the play-by-play just to bring the whole gang together.1 point

To be a good American patriot, am I supposed to buy a Ford made in Mexico, a Chevy made in Korea or a Toyota made in Kentucky? Just want to be sure I'm on the right team. 🤔1 point

I suppose this will rub those of you the wrong way that look like this, but nobody in a Gary Larson comic from 40 years ago is particularly attractive. I was on a Far Side Facebook page a few years back and ended up leaving because half the comments were from people who didn’t get the humor, demanded explanations, and were outraged and offended.1 point

Giants put Verlander on the DL so no chance of him pitching in Comerica next week. It's been almost 8 yrs since he left and I don't think he has pitched here but maybe once or twice.0 points
