  1. OK, here is one organization's opinion. The dip in 2023 has to be the graduations of some sort of combination of Mize, Manning, Skubal, Greene, and Torkelson?
  2. I’m kind of surprised Manning is the one going to Toledo. I’m not against it, someone had to go. I think it’d have been easy to assign that to Olson. A case could probably be made for any of the three to be sent down “to work on stuff”, be it stamina, control, whatever. Diaz probably goes to waivers. I suspect Wentz makes the team for the time being as an extra lefty. So I think it’s down to Faedo or Breiske. Just to echo @mtutiger, it’s nice to see the floor raised.
  3. Do you mean how many LCA tickets are purchased or how many LCA seats are filled? I noticed one of the talking heads for the Cure Auto Insurance commercials sitting courtside during one of the recent games. I half wondered if we’re going to see Rashad and Glen from whatever health care commercial plays during the game suit up for the Pistons since they’ve gotten their ills cured and they have Piston jerseys. Hey, Glen claims he can rebound with the best of ‘em. Let’s see how good the hip replacement really is.
  4. I’d like to see the rankings when Avila took over in 2015.
  5. I'm comfortable extrapolating that to a 54-54-54 regular season record, but I don't think that's good enough for the playoffs.
  6. Why would the NBA care about Detroit? They let Seattle lose a team and the Sonics had a pretty good following up there. Granted, the Pistons have a better building to play in then Seattle did when they moved. If a situation comes along that betters the league at large by moving the franchise somewhere else, it will happen.
  7. I think Dombrowski was fired for sneaking around with the Red Sox brass behind Mike Ilitch in his final contract season wth the Tigers.
  8. Via wikipedia, which, yeah, I know..... Charlie Coles turned in a pretty darn good run at Miami (OH) after coaching a few seasons in between CMU and Miami at a Toledo high school. I remember thinking the high school had a pretty good hire pulling in a former MAC coach. They aren't known for their basketball program, and I don't recall them having any big names around that time.
  9. Well, it could be a completely different situation. I just don't know that it would have resulted in better success under Avila. At some point the issues with development would have crept up regardless of when the rebuild started.
  10. I think its fair to say Avila brought the farm system from an F to a C, which is probably a plateau for Avila, and Harris has the ability to improve upon the C. Or something along those lines.
  11. Well, Mize was sharp in his last outing, no doubt. The question might be has stamina, but they can probably wiggle their way through that with the right relievers in the bullpen. Kind of stinks for Olson given how he pitched for the Tigers last season. On the other hand, that was largely a surprise given his AAA work to date last year. And as has been mentioned several times, it sure is nice to have this kind of depth for once.
  12. Nevada just snatched defeat from the jaws of a 17 point 2nd half lead vs Dayton.
  13. I’m not all that worried about Hiura leaving. 1B is Torkelson’s. They have Canha as a backup. Vierling could play over there as well. Hiura has a weird bat and poor defense. Doesn’t seem like much of a loss to me.
  14. I think they mentioned that the assistant who will be taking over at Duquesne also coached James at SVSM. Dambrot went on to U of Akron after SVSM. I don't recall the story of why he went to Duquense.
  15. Kind of hoping Long Beach State gets to next weekend because that'd be fun to see them win a few more games under a fired head coach. Lebron James' high school coach Keith Dambrot is at Duquense. They won their tourney which was their only path to this tourney. He is retiring after this season. His wife is battling cancer. This is their first NCAA tourney since 1977. I'd like to see them get far. I think those are the two storylines I like the most. Or, I guess, those are the two that I like the most that I can think of right now.
  16. I don’t think that’s a conspiracy theory.
  17. Well, the problem there is that the sensible part of the population might be dealing in percentage of the total population.
  18. So the younger players are looking for leadership from the guy the handled the MILB CBA? Perhaps MLB was going to contract MILB jobs anyway, but it is in an interesting wrinkle that the person that orchestrated a deal that removed jobs is thought of that highly. And maybe that statement is unfair because, again, MLB might have been on the road to removing those jobs anyway. Plus, the CBA did improve the conditions for the remaining jobs, and that certainly cannot be ignored.
  19. Yes. Besides the ERA, just look at his BB9 and SO9 with Detroit vs with Philadelphia. I think the no hitter might just be a coincidence in terms of how his arm might have reached his workload capacity. Throwing 124 pitches in a game that late in that season given the season leading up to it wasn’t optimal at all, no question. But he was probably teetering on the line of diminishing returns for the rest of the season around then anyway. Even if he hadn’t pitched the no hitter, if they’d have pulled him after 90 or 100 in that start, he was probably looking at a tired arm before the season ended. I don’t want to bag on Lorenzen. He pitched well for the Tigers. As I said before, both sides benefited from the other, and that’s good to see. It’s tough to rerack the off-season, but if the Tigers knew he’d have been available for $4.5M, I’d have been interested in a return. The risk is that his arm might be a bit of a concern this season after last season. And given some of the roster decisions that the Tigers have coming up with the pitching staff, it’s tough to see where he’d fit in now.
  20. Now that I think about it, I don’t think I’ve been there since before the pandemic.
  21. It’s a long season. Hopefully he’s up to task.
  22. I wonder how the stadium in Vegas is coming along.
  23. But would the same act play well now?
  24. This organization is just so unbelievably dreadful.
