I've got great news. Remember how Brian Anderson was a buzzword last season for 3B? Well, he's now available. Brewers Designate Brian Anderson, Reinstate Garrett Mitchell From 60-Day Injured List

How to construct a Playoff/Champion worthy team, D Tigers V.2024+

Maybe, maybe not. It depends upon what Hader gets and what else is available. They don't have to spend right away in free agency. Just where it makes sense to do so. The bullpen could use help, but maybe getting a couple of back end possible / more stamina type arms would be better than just Hader. -

I guess it depends upon how much weight one gives to range. You're right, he caught whatever was hit to him and he had a strong & accurate arm. But range wasn't a strength for him. -

The Tigers (and Guardians & MLB) handled things pretty well this weekend. I thought having Cabrera's kids involved in his first plate appearance on Sunday and pulling him from the game were nice touches. It seemed the "huggy line" was a bit overblown, but whatever. It does seem odd to me that he wouldn't have had a fielding glove with him at all this season. I realize he was a DH only, but I figured he's have had one just to kick around and play catch every once in a while. -

It all depends on the terms of the contract. Same as trading any of the current players. Its all relative. I'd hate to see them trade Greene. But if they were to be offered more value than Greene, I'll probably get it over it eventually. -

I don't know all of the backstory, and I'm not in a position to dispute or confirm any of that. From my perspective as a Tiger fan, I'd rather they invest the salary that he'd be looking for on other players. I'd like to see them add another arm or two for the end of the game. Lange's walk rate is too high for me. -

Come on, he ain't the second coming of Rivera. Pass on him and let the funds required to acquire him be allocated elsewhere. -

My worthless guess is it’s probably a bit of all of the above. As far as the video/stats/reports on players are concerned, sure, there was information available to Harris on his first day. But how much of that was relevant or how was it prioritized on day one vs how Harris wanted it to be? Just because there was preexisting information doesn’t mean it was useful or utilized correctly. I am intrigued to see what Harris and company have in store this off-season. I don’t quite know what to expect. I have my own ideas what I’d like to see, but I don’t want to project that onto what I think Harris do. -

I think this is true. But I believe one or the other had mentioned that they didn’t always agree with each other in the past. It’s not necessary a bad thing to have differences of opinion. It’ll be how they work through those that will matter. -

They mentioned on the Bally pregame show that the batter clock has not been in use this weekend for Cabrera. I guess I never noticed that. But kudos to the Guardians and MLB for going along with it. I don’t think he was ever one of the hitters to waste time, so that is helpful as well. I noticed the other night when Greinke was pitching, he took a stroll around the mound for Cabrera’s first plate appearance. So, I wonder if the clock was used or paid attention to against Kansas City? The clock has been a good thing. But I’m glad that the other parties involved this past week are reading the room and understanding the situation. -

I understand wanting to bring in Hader as bullpen help. No doubt about the talent, and any team should welcome that kind of talent. However, listening to one of the national podcasts the last week or two, his name came up as maybe becoming a bit more hard to handle in the clubhouse and only wants to pitch the 9th. IF true, and I don’t know one way or the other, I wouldn’t be interested at all. -

I like that they had Rodriguez give a speech in Spanish. I have no idea what was said. But I think it was a fine gesture to Cabrera, his family & friends, and those in attendance and watching the game. I think Cabrera’s mother threw a better ceremonial first pitch than his father. I think I recall reading his mother had played some sort of organized softball/baseball. She really had the throwing form to prove it. -

2023 Detroit Tigers Regular Season Discussion Thread
casimir replied to oblong's topic in Detroit Tigers
Bringing up some names of yesteryear makes one think again about what kind of numerals players would have put up had they not been involved in military service. Greenberg missed, what, 4 seasons after he turned 30? And simply picked up from where he was as if he hadn't missed a beat? -
Well, if 1 & 2 don't happen, then I just don't know what to say about the results of the restoration or whatever they want to call it. I guess it's stalled or a lemon. 3 is going to have to happen at some point to further this along. Could the Pistons be involved transactionally in the fallout of the Lillard trade?

Agree. The challenge system adds very little time. I thought there was a rule about check swings such that swinging past a line across the plate parallel to the front of the plate was a swing, but stopping before that was a check / nonswing?. Maybe there isn't such a rule. Anyway, that's the rule I was thinking of as a part of a reviewable challenge.

Seems like something that could be reviewable.
