  1. Keeping Baddoo and carrying him at $2M even if he is at Toledo really isn’t as a big deal.
  2. Has Baez opted out yet?
  3. Nevin shouldn’t be on the 40, so I don’t see him as an issue. I suspect at least one of Short/Ibanez doesn’t return. If Baddoo leaves, it’ll be via trade. To Edman’s point, he’s 25 and can be stashed at Toledo at worst. He’s not a perfect player by any means, but he’s got some skills to work with. Maybe he just needs a bit more time.
  4. Ah, OK! So he’s technically not a free agent yet, but will be soon because he’ll get more than what he could (short & long term) if he opts in for next season.
  5. He’s interesting. He didn’t seem to suffer much at all moving from the bullpen to the rotation last season. His SO% has been dropping lately, but he was still a bit better than league average to go along with materially better than league average BB%. I just wonder about arm usage. Does he have the stamina to start again, will he have a bit of a hangover from increased usage last season? Or does the reduced mileage from his previous seasons help him?
  6. Michael Wacha was let loose by San Diego. He had a pair of team options at $16M per followed by a $6M player option. Not sure what his health has been lately, he’s only been around 23 starts and 130 innings the last two seasons. Ut those innings have been effective. It’ll be interesting to see what he gets on the market. I wonder if Harris inquired about him.
  7. Look for the fumbleroosky type play that Rutgers ran on OSU in the 2nd quarter. I gave them a hat tip. It was brilliantly executed.
  8. Losing to Rutgers should be an automatic elimination from playoff consideration.
  9. What is the way too early guesstimate for Greene’s recovery? Is it assumed he will be back to OF duties by Opening Day? I suppose it’s helpful that it’s his glove arm that’s impacted, but maybe it doesn’t matter with swinging a bat, I don’t know. Is Canha insurance as an everyday LF early on in the season? He doesn’t seem to have a RHP/LHP split.
  10. The bat isn’t what worries me given his resume of controlling the plate. I think the better than league average SO% and BB% with average hard hit rates will be helpful in the lineup. It’s possible he loses it next season, but he still had it last season without a sharp drop from the season before. I don’t like the defensive fit from what I’m seeing. Looks like he’s below average range and arm on savant. I’d like to see the Tigers put a little more emphasis on defensive aptitude in the outfield than we’ve seen in the past. However, the price isn’t much to worry about. The free agent market is poor. They had to bring in a righty OF bat and they did that without sacrificing too much projected future value and maintaining longer term roster/salary sanity. And if Harris/Hinch like the veteran makeup on an otherwise younger club, that’s an understandable asset to acquire. This shouldn’t preclude them from making a deal for another better RHH OF if it comes along.
  11. By the way, welcome to the conference.
  12. I bet JC hates it, too.
  13. Schroder’s name made me search basketball reference to see that he has doubled his career per game assist average so far in this early season (9.0 vs 4.5).
  14. Oh, Nelly! Has anyone figured out how to do pay per view for the Purdue at Michigan postgame handshake?
  15. I think I’m resigned to letting Rodriguez go. I get his baseball card and he’d be a pitcher that could help the Tigers. It’d be good to get that need taken care of before free agency starts and focus on other areas of need. The off field issue in his first year is tough to comprehend as an outsider. The leave itself was an unknown. But what made it worse was the “lack of communication” that became the only known about the situation. I think you grant that as an excused absence without knowing enough of the story. That said, there was the trade deadline issue this last season. We can go back and forth about the degree of blame to the player/agent and the front office. Neither are completely innocent. I think it adds suspicion to the previous season’s issue. We don’t have to deal with these guys on a personal level, so what should it matter to us. But is there an underlying issue that might manifest itself into something more on the roster or in the clubhouse? If it’s as simple as adding another year at a reasonable rate, than I guess the Tigers make the deal. I don’t know, it just doesn’t seem like it would be that simple given what we’ve seen.
  16. Is he listed in the Manifesto?
  17. That’s an interesting point about timing of the season or other variables. I hadn’t thought of that. I can see where it could theoretically shift numbers a little bit.
  18. Not necessarily specific to Ivey, but more in general to the team..... Now is the time to send messages. New head coach, somewhat different mix of players on the floor, a whole lot of youth and potential. Lay down the groundwork for the new program early in the season.
  19. It seems like an OPS+ or RC+ would be a more appropriate numerical evaluator for 2023?
  20. If that happens, I’m going to become an Expos fan.
  21. Someone is watching him shooting tonight and they’re thinking to themselves, how did he get the 1?
  22. The better fix this **** before the tournament starts.
