  1. The chatter of expansion is in the air. I know that it’s likely at some point. And I know that there is a popular idea that 4 team divisions will be the result. My contention against it is based on the math behind smaller populated divisions resulting in keeping better records out of the playoffs in lieu of worse records making it into the playoffs. It almost happened in 1994 with Texas leading the AL West standings at 10 games below a neutral record. This season we currently have AL Central leading Minnesota at 3 games worse than Boston and New York, who are currently tied for last in the AL East and would be scratched out of the second season. Now, I’m not here to throw a pity party for those scoundrels. On the contrary, I hope it holds. This situation at hand is exactly the dose of reality needed that would give pause to slicing up 32 teams into too many portions. In fact, I hope New York and Boston further their records above and beyond the AL Central winner (whomever that may be) yet still not make the playoffs because there are 3 wild cards with a better (and hopefully materially so) better record than the despicable duo. Please, feel free to join me in this worthwhile crusade. I mean, I don’t know what to do exactly except for wait out the season and hope for the best for some and the worst for others. But there’s strength in numbers, and there’s plenty of room on the bandwagon.
  2. You are probably right with the appeal to the children. I shall now quoth my grandfather in law (who sired off 15): God damned kids.
  3. Yawn. My dad and I are tied with 0. What’s more, my son (which I do not have any offspring of the male variety) is also tied with us at 0. Three generations tied with the same number of home runs. Go ahead, top that.
  4. “Ok boys, this is should be pretty easy, we’ll go through this one at a time taking turns. Javy, take this bucket of balls with you out to SS and let’s see how this goes.”
  5. And to add to this, maybe Cisnero could have been used for more than a Mike Bibby handful of pitches?
  6. That 5+ BB/9 ain’t a misprint.
  7. Yes. I recognized Ferrin’s voice from MLB radio. I wonder how many games he’s called? But even if he has experience, I doubt he and Dickerson have worked together before. They formed a good combo early on.
  8. Leftovers from the all star game? Gotta use those before they smell up the fridge.
  9. Old English M? Just don’t go over the top with different colors or pinstripes or skylines or stuff like that. The Tiger jerseys have been historically subtle. A simple change that way would be enough. Maybe a navy blue jersey top with a left side chest old English M is enough.
  10. So here is another play during this game where I wonder what was happening on field vs what we could see on TV. What was the chatter on field as far as where to throw the ball as it was cut off. From what I saw as I saw it live this morning on recording (just go with it), I could see an out at 3B while I was surprised the out was made at home. It took a perfect relay to the plate to make it close (I think he was out) whereas Kelenic was a dead duck at 3B. I don’t want to blame Maton who doesn’t have eyes in the back of his head, perhaps he heard 4/home. But with a 3 run lead and one out late in the game, take the 2nd out at 3B when they run into it. As far as the review, I didn’t see an angle that suggested overturning it either way. It seems to me like whatever call was made, once it was established that Rogers wasn’t guilty of blocking the plate, I don’t see how the result of out/safe was overturned. It didn’t seem obvious enough to me.
  11. I hope he goes Trey Thompson, Jr. Wouldn’t that be fun around here?
  12. So I wonder what he saw from his angle. I bet he thought Torkelson had it as his initial movement was to field the ball which put him in a reasonably good throwing position to deliver the ball home. For all of his fielding question marks, Torkleson has shown a pretty strong and accurate arm. So, we benefit from multiple TV angles, but I wonder if Pollock’s angle (and possibly the base coach) reads significantly different than what we saw.
  13. I think it would be helpful for him to show bunt more often, but I don’t think he’s been all that successful at actually laying one down.
  14. I listened for a short bit. I liked it.
  15. Who is the backup 1Bdude when Torkleson is at DH? Or do they roll with two 2Bdudes and they rotate as middle 2Bdude and foul line 2Bdude? Maybe they start standing next two each other and one of them rolls over to 1B while the pitcher goes in motion, almost like a man in motion in football? Talk about chess level chess. Come on AJ, we knew you read the forums. Let’s see it! And stop staring at me when I’m at the yard.
  16. There was a scramble at the State Farm offices to find a worthy person in khakis.
  17. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/munsoth01.shtml That's Thurman Munson. All star in 7 of 10 full time seasons behind the plate. He averaged .292/.346/.410, good for a 116 OPS+ and 5.2 WAR over his tragically short life. Add on a ROY season and MVP season. The HOF committee never inducted him through 15 ballots. He never had double digit percentages with the exception of 15.5% on his first ballot. People use Don Mattingly as the exception to the New York bias, but I think Munson is the better example. The HOF museum is a fantastic place to visit. HOF enshrinement is an absolute head scratcher sometimes. If/when Buster Posey is inducted into the hall, baseball historians and media darlings absolutely need to bring up cases for Munson & Freehan.

  19. I thought it might be nice to create a thread to collect thoughts about the upcoming Tiger game. Maybe this will work. Maybe it won't. Let's try it out.

  21. Oh soar, Thompson!
  22. What if you dip pita in the hummus? Is it still hummus?
  23. This picture makes me hope that he talked in that low & mumbley voice that they use for those who wish to remain anonymous.
  24. Indeed. And will flop calls be subject to challenge?
