  1. Cassette? Ok, boomer.
  2. My favorite giveaway was in Cleveland when they gave away Victor Martinez bobble heads. Oh,…., and this was two days after they traded him to Boston. I politely declined mine.
  3. Oblong would know better than me how these things go. I was just thinking about some of the variables of this weekend. Enjoy!
  4. Yeah, so, the bike trail that runs through my 'hood is less than a 1/4 off of a decently used two lane road. Guess wear you'll find some of the spandex wearers. And just for the record, yes I wear a helmet and no I do not wear spandex.
  5. I was in Boston this summer, north of the proper and in downtown. They had specific and dedicated bike lines along the road which were cordoned off by physical barriers in some spots and mere painted lines in other spots. The physical barriers, ok, I might be fine with that. But paint? Nah, not for me. Now, granted, I use the bike for fresh air and exercise. I'm fortunate enough to have a bike trail that rolls through my neighborhood, and even more fortunate that it connects to metro parks in either direction. I don't have to rely on it out of necessity (say work or school).
  6. I understand the theory that "bicycles are vehicles, too" and "share the road" and yada, yada, yada. I also understand the reality that there are idiots behind the wheel and my Schwinn & helmet ain't no match for an idiot behind the wheel. Therefore, I'll just stay off of the roads as much as possible, thank you.
  7. Common sense just isn't common, is it?
  8. I suppose a shallow free agent crop helps his cause, which, hey, he should use that to his advantage if he could. Here's a thought I had yesterday. How many times has a player left a team they played for in one season and then played against them in the next season but as a member for two different teams? .375/.400/.750 vs Detroit this season. Better hope he ends up in a division far, far away?
  9. What's his OPS since he's been a teammate of Maton? That's the real question.
  10. Probably only temporary anyway.
  11. I don't know the exact answer, but, take these into consideration: Its the Astros, so there might be extra attendance because of that. Its the last Saturday home game before Labor Day / football season. I think most Michigan schools start after Labor Day? That probably rolls into this. Weather looks good for Saturday. Might increase walk ups? If you go really early, there's always the carousel and ferris wheel to entertain your grandson. There's the statues and the pennant poles to check out. Take a walk around the stadium. There's stuff to do before the first pitch. It probably depends on how your grandson might take all of this in.
  12. So, OK, let me get this straight: Oakland is moving to Las Vegas. Tampa's future has been in question since .... Milwaukee is posturing a move. Now the Jerk Sox?
  13. I saw this. My oldest loves giraffes, so I sent it to the family text. My wife said it looked like a deer. Now, I frequently see deer when I bicycle. I stop and take pictures and send them to the family text. But if I see a 7 foot tall deer, I am turning the bike around and pedaling as fast as I've ever pedaled (well, for that day anyway).
  14. Faust was the subject of an early episode of the Lost Ballparks podcast. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/nancy-faust-white-sox/id1602158620?i=1000552677238 From 1970-2010 Nancy Faust was the organist for the Chicago White Sox. She was a trailblazer who made music an integral part of the ballpark experience. When Harry Caray first sang "Take Me Out To The Ballgame" at Comiskey Park, Nancy was playing the organ for him. She was the first to play "Na Na Hey Hey Goodbye" as an opposing pitcher walked off the field or after a White Sox home run. She is a Chicago treasure!
  15. Some of these younger arms look fine one time through the lineup, but that next look is a different story. I don't know fi they need the experience with learning to pitch vs throw or maybe they are simply just relievers. Relief would be fine, especially if they can go multiple innings. But, yes, Harris is going to need to tend to the rotation.
  16. Well, he's probably increased his value with this season on his baseball card vs coming into this season. It'd be interesting to see what he can get in the offseason. I suspect it's 2 seasons with a vesting/performance option for a 3rd. His baseball card still has downs to go with the ups.
  17. The Nick Maton Effect.
  18. Chicago Cubs vs Detroit Tigers Watch: Tigers - Bally Sports Detroit, Cubs - Marquee Sports Network, National - MLBN (out-of-market only) Listen: Tigers - 97.1 The Ticket, Cubs - 670 The Score
  19. Argh…. Short robbed of a triple & RBI. Thank goodness the walls got moved in. 😡
  20. Maybe they should try Carpenter at 1B?
  21. Torkelson has for the most part done pretty well catching Baez. The groundball was inexcusable. Field it, throw to 2B, easy play. Even if they don't get the double play, a converted out at 2B gives them 2 outs with a runner (Candelario) at 1B. Maybe they give up only 1 (or 0) rather than 3 that inning.
  22. I appears that they have enough returning internal pieces to add to next season. They also should have a pretty good payroll situation to take on salary for a few seasons. Cabrera retires, Rodriguez opts out, Baez opts in. They have one salary at $25M and nobody else approaching double digit $Ms. I think where it could get tricky is if the need prospect capital to make trades. But I think they can look to teams trying to shed salary as a priority to get value back in return without giving up too much.
