I'm just glad it wasn't Ollie. The parting from UConn just doesn't sit well with me. Maybe it shouldn't matter and I'm overly critical of it. This hire needed to be a developmental hire. This is the NBA and coaching seats get turned over quickly, even for winning teams. The fact that the Pistons hired a coach with the record of Williams' seems fortunate, but I'm not smart enough to know if this will translate to what the Pistons really need at this time. It is entirely possible that this nucleus of youth will need to different coaches to reach the Finals (should we be so lucky to see it). One to develop them into championship talented pieces, another to cohesively weave those pieces together. Hopefully Williams can do both. But, again, this is the NBA we're talking about. The contract terms seem expensive, but as has been mentioned, it ain't my money, and it doesn't count against the cap. So Williams is step one, but who will comprise his coaching staff? That's probably equally important to all of this.

He seems to me to have a weird run. Its kind of cartoonish in a way. His upper body almost seems to trail his legs. That's probably bot the case at all, but his upper body doesn't seem to be in front of his legs like others. Its not very athletic looking to me (which is rich coming from someone that can have their 40 timed with a sun dial). -

The old "laugh to keep from crying" line? Probably suffered it while jogging with Fetter. -

Co-sign. Furthermore, he's having a bit of a successful rebound from last season. Strikeouts are down. Walks are up. He's hitting the ball hard. Reward that and see if he can manage to make hay vs LHPs. Maybe he can't. Or maybe its salvageable enough to where he can hit lower in the lineup vs LHPs and higher in the lineup vs RHPs. And here's another thought. If Greene does in fact need some IL time, move Baddoo up in the lineup. -

Does the IL have a Central Division? Realignment, now. -

The lack of rotation depth is up against it with this injury. Its probably unreasonable to expect the entirety of the pitching staff to not take a step back for the time being. The relief end is going to be counted on for more innings, and with limited resources that can pitch multiple innings with some kind of regularity, there's going to be only so much that Fetter/Nieves and crew can do with the current collection of healthy arms. -

Yes, so we're probably looking at Baez, Greene, Torkelson, and McKinstry as that quartet this season. Hopefully Malloy can develop into one of those players for next season. So now if Greene hits the IL, its probably Baddoo in CF. He's had a pretty good rebound season at the plate. The arm strength is what it is. It's an opportunity for to play everyday, he'll get to show if he can indeed figure out LHP. Maybe he hits lower in the lineup vs LHPs than RHPs, but that'd be fine. -

He's been interviewed during games a few times this season. He's been pretty good with that interaction. -

Well, Boyd actually looked pretty good save for the 3 ball he gave up to Seager. He entered the 7th with a pitch count in check. It was the bottom of the batting order. I don't know, maybe it was too greedy. At the same time, Texas is a pretty good hitting ball club. Faedo tomorrow and TBD on Wednesday. Off day on Thursday. Faedo has looked good, but we have to remember he is the 7th/8th SP coming into this season, and I don't think he's shown enough to assume more than 5 or 6. The 3rd game of the season is kind of unknown right now. Maybe squeezing another inning out of Boyd helps that future strategy. Ultimately, this game came down to Texas scoring some of its baserunners (and they had more of them) and Detroit stranding them. Can't win with a goose egg. -

I guess for me, I would flip the plate discipline to the top and McKinstry down lower. The rationale is that the plate discipline has been team wide. McKinstry is just one player. The odds of numerous players doing something unexpected is higher than one maybe late bloomer. But both are fun stories. This has been a fun May. I suppose part of that is because the division leader is within a sneeze. But even if the Tigers were behind by 6 or 7, being a game under .500 and the overall improved play from last season are welcome. The record in close games, 9-4 in one run games, has to help keep interest up. It gives me the sense that they aren’t out of it unless it’s a blow out (3-9). Aside from those specific scenarios, they’re a .500 team. So a two or three run game late is worth some attention. Relevant baseball. This fan base is starved for the playoffs, but relevant baseball makes for a nice appetizer.

Baddoo is only 24. It seems to me like he’s older, but his rookie season was early. I don’t think it was too surprising to see a Toledo stint this season. But give him his due, his strikeouts are down and his walks are up, and he’s making good on his opportunity this season. Would like to see more improvement at the plate and defensively, but I think he might be in the majors to stay now.

This is probably true. But he is actually hitting the ball lately. Hit a couple of seeds and the long fly ball to the RF side of CF that moved Torkelson to 3B in the 10th. Due in part to this and Maton's struggles, maybe we're about to see Schoop get more than platoon time for a bit right now? They've kept him this long despite a slow start, and to your point, he probably doesn't have much trade value. -
This might be why Malloy is at 3B in Toledo.

My guess is that the numerals say games within a run or two favor the Tigers, middle games might be 50/50, and blow outs go to the opposition. That being said, while the "playing chess" trope seems silly at times, Hinch & company are winning the toss ups.
