  1. I doubt they will be champions.
  2. I think there was progress as well. Continued successful pitching patchwork. The emergence of 3 everyday position players and a primary catcher. But there is still much work to be done.
  3. Meanwhile, at my alma mater... St. Francis students fired up after Detroit Pistons Xtreme Team’s “smashing” pep rally performance
  4. I think the lefty/righty bats aren't as much of the issue for Baddoo as it is the defensive chops of the other OFs. The Tigers could use a defensive upgrade in RF. I don't think Greene has the arm for it. He and Carpenter are probably everyday players going into next season. Ideally they'd be at LF & DH respectively, but obviously Greene's recovery is a variable there. Meadows' glove gives him CF. Now, whether or not the bat complies probably isn't an issue right now. That's a long term issue. And then there's Vierling who is probably no more than a 4th OF. But as a RHH with some defensive chops, he does have value for this OF. Its just not as an everyday RF. Baddoo just hasn't been able to put the bat together for long enough, and there's no way the arm can play in RF. Circling back to Greene's recovery, if he has to start the season as the DH, the Tigers probably have Carpenter in RF (not ideal) which opens up LF for Baddoo. But all of that just considers players that have an inside track on returning. Let's see what Harris has up his sleeve for this offseason.

  6. Even better. He's going to do the 9 positions in 9 innings thing and bat left handed in one of his plate appearances.
  7. Yup. Deal from a strength to address a weakness.

  9. But you gotta admit, the Twins gifting a rocking chair of broken bats to Mariano Rivera was pretty clever.
  10. Didn’t ND use a timeout before those 2 plays?
  11. Sure, Kim is on a reasonable deal. What if the Tigers take on Carpenter who has a player option next season? It’s only $5M or $6M, but he’s going to pick it up. The Tigers can give him spring training to do whatever and cut him. It might not be much to tack into a deal, but maybe it moves a needle somewhat. What if they take on a different somewhat onerous contract? Darvish’s contract goes a bit deep into his aging. But is he a pitcher that might age reasonably well? Or what about Musgrove? It’s a higher AAV although given the difference in age, he might be a better future value (caveat being I see he’s on the IL right now and I’m not sure why). I wouldn’t be adverse to moving from the top of the system. I’d be willing to float one of the lefty hitting IFs without a position in the right move. In theory from the seat of message board GM, sure, they could put Keith and Jung in some alignment of one at 2B and one at 3B. But both possibilities might not be ideal long term, particularly with Torkelson’s lack of range at 1B.
  12. Meyer was one of the names that I saw.
  13. I don’t think there’s much to gain from free agency, except for another Lorenzen type of move. I do think there’s opportunity to bring salary in from a team heavy on salary that might not cost the Tigers much in terms of prospect capital. I don’t know that Soto is the guy. But I’d like to bring in Kim for 2B or 3B. Put him at the top of the lineup. What would it take?
  14. At least I got the game time right today.
  15. It'd be a good life lesson to prepare for next season's World Series.
  16. That was ridiculous and deserving of scorn. And then after the game, meatball football coach blather session about toughness and nobody believed it and everybody questioned it..... Hey, dummy, you called a play that didn't use said toughness. So shut up!
  17. Somebody else in the rivalry gets it. You know, some of you people could learn a lot from buddha. It wouldn't be all good, but you'd still be learning a lot.
  18. Eat it, Notre Dame. But why the hate for the Bobcats?
  19. No, I didn't interpret that from you. The LaRussa thing (3 Ps going 3 IP each) was a bit of an extreme on the theory.
  20. I read a little bit on it yesterday. A combination of too many OF/DH types and Horton's aging legs. The trade to Texas was a bit awkward on that side as well. The owner wanted him, but it sounds like the field management didn't.

  22. I think we might be talking about different “final” games. I was referring to the final game at Tiger Stadium in 1999 when former Tigers took to the field after the game against the Royals. I remember Willie taking his spot in LF, trying unsuccessfully to hold back his tears. I don’t know too much about his trade out of Detroit. I wasn’t even in grade school yet, so none of it would have made any sense to me at the time. I never realized it before, but I see he played one game for the Tigers in 1977. I think this might be the game that are speaking of?
