I think Rogers is to be taken with a grain of salt. He’s a catcher for one, primarily a defense first catcher. Sure, he might have some pop, but I don’t think anyone considers him to much offense to begin with. And the other thing is his return to actual game action. He missed quite a bit of time as a catcher and as a hitter. I think that’s quite a bit to miss. Sure, he can remain part of the game planning while injured and working with pitchers from afar, but actively catching them is another thing. And then along those lines, how many different pitchers have the Tigers been through the past season plus? Maton is a bit of a victim of the BABIP pendulum so far. He is striking out worse than and walking better than league averages. But his BABIP is also under .200. Looks like he might be going opposite field and fly ball too much? I don’t know. Perhaps the approach is affecting the results.

Don’t look know, but his slash lines are darn near identical to Baez’. Sure, there’s the discrepancy in playing time and defense. But I bet nobody would’ve guessed the similarity unless they saw the numerals. I was certainly surprised.

Most underrated Tiger of that era?

I don’t know. Let’s say the Tigers somehow or another keep very minimal distance to the top of an awful division “race”. Schoop finds himself enough to be helpful for what the Tigers need, but there are no offers for him at the trade deadline. The combination of events probably isn’t likely. But here we are at Memorial Day within a series of .500. Who would’ve thought that likely? If your hand is up, you’re lying. Now, my inclination would still be for the future rather than 2023. But if there’s nothing compelling offered for Schoop, why not fancy a chance now? Or do you just take the best offer available regardless? I could see either side of it, but it’s a real sideways squint and without glasses on to envision such a scenario.

Its getting better lately. There might be a hot streak in him before the season is over.

It’s interesting because he’s playing OF now, too. Maybe he’s a late bloomer? Add in positional flexibility. Sounds like a possible spring training darling next March.

Sweet. if he can prove it some more against inferior pitching, maybe he gets a call up. But as of now I guess a .700 OPS in AAA isn’t all that impressive.

Nice baserunning by Schoop on the Ibanez line out.

.673 OPS in April and .726 OPS in May for Lipcius. .979 in the last week, so if he’s “gotten hot” it’s happened just recently and is a small sample size. Just like Nevin’s pre call up. Just like Ibanez’ pre call up.

I don’t think Lipcius’ May is all that different than his April. I thought that’s what I saw yesterday. But they aren’t calling Malloy up. They aren’t calling Keith up. They’re going to play the long game with them and let them develop in the minors. Keith especially would have to be tearing AA up to be promoted to Detroit. They just don’t have many moves to make right now with the position players and with the rotation. Heck, probably with bullpen, too. And despite all of this, somehow or another they’re within a series of .500. They’ve got a decent record for being awful.
