  1. I think part of it is due to still being mired in a long stretch of mediocrity at the MLB level. It’s not reasonable to expect a division title right away heading into this season. As it turns out, it might have been more achievable than thought. Maybe the division winner being only a games above .500 is part of the angst, I don’t know.
  2. I’d rather see these kinds of matchups as opposed to playing Crappensburg State.
  3. Short and sweet, Harris had a lot of tasks ahead of him. He hasn’t been perfect and there’s still a lot more to do. Overall I think he has the organization going in the right direction, but time will tell. I think this off-season needs to be a bit different than last season. I think last year was about raising the floor of the 40 man depth chart. I think this off-season is more about plugging holes at the major league level.
  4. I got nothing rational to explain for Nevin over Malloy aside from it must be a combination of Malloy’s defense not being ready enough in their evaluation and not being on the 40 man. I think the other thing to keep in mind is that teams have only 2 extra roster spots to play with these days. It’s different from before when teams could fill up the dugout and roster with whomever was on the 40. So, it wasn’t uncommon for teams to have differing number of players in any given September matchup. It was quite an odd arrangement if you take a step back from it and look at it. It was kind of as odd as the NFL 3rd QB rule where the first two QBs had to be knocked out before the 3rd could come into a game, and I think that was restricted to the 2nd half, too. I’m probably in the minority, but I think limiting the roster expansion makes sense. It doesn’t make sense to play one month of the season with a significantly different number of available players than the rest of the season. Plus, the minor leagues go longer into the year now. Before the roster rule change, AAA regular season stopped at Labor Day. Now it goes into late September. So, the prospects that would have normally gotten called up at Labor Day with no other playing option get a few more weeks of playing time in the minors.
  5. Personally, I define it as “I’m done with the Andy Ibanez experience, please call someone up on his place”.
  6. Man, I’ve been awful lately.
  7. Lipcius has a .800 OPS in about a season of AAA plate appearances, he’s already on the 40, he’s 25 years old, he’s able to play more defensive positions than Malloy. He just might be more of a complete two way player right now and they probably need to see him at the MLB level of competition sooner given age and contract.
  8. Yup. But, hey, if coaches can move from season to season, if non athletic students can transfer from school to school, why can't the student-athletes?
  9. Speak for yourself.
  10. On the other hand, the basketball travels more distance by hitting the backboard and ricocheting back, right? That’s just more opportunity for it to be too far off to the side one way or the other, right?
  11. Looks like he’s been playing 3B primarily with some DH time beginning on 08/23. Colt Keith has been at 2B with a few appearances at 3B during that time.
  12. Trade bait. He could be an add on to acquire another bat to the lineup or a different pitcher. The free agent market looks poor, so rather than shop there, why not try the trade market? Why not engage with teams that might be looking to shed some salary, even if those salaries are attached to good ball players?
  13. PAC 12 opens up at a cumulative 13-0 record (USC is 2-0). They’ll never manage to do that again.
  14. That's awesome. Guys like Kelly and Sanders may not be everyone's cup of tea. But when they're right, they're right.
  15. LHP Sam McMackin played 2 MLB games. 1 for Detroit, 1 for Chicago.
  16. Um... ok? Yup, this. If we can't poke a little fun at each other, if we can't poke a little fun at our own foibles, then what are we even doin' here, man? Generic to the beginning of any new college football and definitely specific to Colorado this season, we just don't have anything to go on yet. Rewind to a year ago? Who knew TCU would make it the championship game last season? Who knew OSU cast off Joe Burrow would turn into LSU pigskin god Joe Burrow? Its why I hate preseason and early season rankings. Nobody knows for sure what these teams are until they start playing that season.
  17. Detroit Tigers vs Chicago White Sox Watch: White Sox - NBCSCH, Tigers - Bally Sports Detroit Listen: White Sox - WMVP 1000 AM, TUDN WRTO 1200, Tigers - 97.1 The Ticket
  18. I suspect if they put Greene on the IL, they’d just bring up Maton or someone else already on the 40.
  19. Yeah, I remember the Falcons and Saints in the NFC West and the Reds and the Braves in the NL West. I remember wondering about that in a social studies class in grade school one day. Football can get away with it, that’s fine. All of the other sports with the more travel involved, it doesn’t make sense. But, hey, whatever, I’ll still watch.
  20. Oooooops.
  21. There are marching band shows around here where several bands will take turns going through their halftime shows. It seems like ours always visits one other particular school’s show and then our school also hosts their own show with a return trip of the formerly mentioned school as well as several others. It seems like when our school hosts, they get each of the 6 to 8 most NW counties of the state represented. I don’t know if that’s intentional or not, but it’s worked out that way for the previous 2 years and this year as well. They were part of Chicago’s Christmas parade a couple of years ago. We arrived late, but just in time to see them march by. They were followed by Kool and the Gang and Tag Team. Of course my daughter had no idea who they were, and sort of remembered Tag Team from the GEICO commercial ice cream spoof.
  22. Wow. Wasn’t expecting this one. I’ve seen him in Columbus, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Wisconsin, and Las Vegas. The Vegas one…. A certain poster around here kicked the idea about our Buffett group of several couples going there. So, he texted me one morning about tickets going on sale in less than an hour, are me and my wife in? Well, my wife and I hadn’t really made a decision. So my response was, well, the wife didn’t say no, so, sure, we’re in. And that’s how we saw him in Vegas.
  23. I wouldn't add them. And who knows, "Big 10" just might be a past tense term in college football in a few seasons.
  24. None of this makes sense and we all know it.
  25. I am pretty sure most of the kids do both. I remember growing up caddy corner from the local high school and hearing them practice from time to time. In fact, every once in a while, they would practice their parade stuff by marching down the street. I don't know they got away with that, and it wasn't very often, but they did it.
