  1. I wanted them to go after him, too. I don’t recall hearing one way or another if the Tigers had offered.
  2. This noon start has me thinking its later than it is.
  3. Kim and Cronenworth can handle 3B & 2B. Kim is signed through next season, but arbitration eligible after that for a few more seasons. Cronenworth is signed longer term, but maxes out at under $13M per season. This would allow Keith another season in Toledo to work on his game, no need to rush him, get a leadoff hitter into the Detroit lineup, and also extend it deeper down a player. Both are at or better than league average BB% & SO%, so hitters than can control the strike zone per Harris' mantra. I have no idea what San Diego would want in return. They might like to move Cronenworth's contract because it is longer term and they have quite a few of those on the books already.
  4. At the very least, it will allow Faedo an opportunity to go a few more than 2 innings.
  5. Oh look, a line of precipitation headed towards Detroit.
  6. I’d be fine with leaving Kim and Cronenworth (who I think is due for a rebound before the season is up). That’d help take care of some of the IF woes.
  7. I prefer that they play the game on the field.
  8. That mentality works for football where there’s 10% of the games to play and one game going one way or another has much more magnitude than in baseball. Of course one game can make a difference in baseball, that’s entirely possible. But simple math says 1/162 isn’t as important as 1/17. And given the circumstances of this team this season, one game ain’t diddly pooh.
  9. That’s a fair criticism. I think they were stuck in a bad situation and Englert is one of the few available to go multiple innings. Trying to squeeze a 3rd inning out of him was probably too much to hope for. Add: Trying to get through this lineup more than once for someone that doesn’t have it is too much to ask for. Which leads me to who was available last night and is the composition of the bullpen in terms of long and short relievers what it should be?
  10. Its crazy to think Robert Parish (and a lot of others in the past) played basketball when watching today's game.
  11. I had back-to-back 5 for 9s. I might be on the verge of being demoted to 4x4 grids.
  12. Apparently the minor leagues have adopted a rule that any game starting after 9pm is a 7 inning affair. I heard that while watching the Mud Hens game after the Tigers. They were rain delayed as well, but before the game started.
  13. They're sellers on Rodriguez and Lorenzen. Hopefully for Cisnero and Shreve, too. But they're buying futures, too. Whether or not they're buying currents, well, that theory took a kick in the gut the last few days.
  14. True enough, however.... We got a cell hit us going from north to south. I was looking at radar and lots of pop up stuff all over the region. So the precip wasn't exactly a nice orderly front coming through. On the plus side, the garden got watered organically.
  15. Pat of the problem is that they are in the middle of 17 straight games with no days off. I know, first world problems for baseball players. But then you layer in the pitchers that are coming off of injury and still exposed somewhat to a pitch count. And also add in the solo inning artistry of some of the bullpen arms. And now a rain delay knocks the starter out after 2 innings. It might not sound like much, but they had to cover 3 or 4 innings somehow last night keeping in mind that Sunday was going to be a bullpen day as well. The roster construction and day to day circumstances bit them today with the rain delay. And let's be honest about this. Had they won on Friday, which they had several opportunities to do so, are there as many questions about how Saturday was handled? Probably not as much, although tossing an "eat it" kind of game together beginning with a 3-0 lead still stinks.
  16. San Diego Padres vs Detroit Tigers Watch: National - Peacock Listen: Tigers - 97.1 The Ticket, WXYT 1270, Padres - KWFN 97.3, XEMO 860
  17. I don’t think Ben helps the cause.
  18. I think the keys here are the DH only and the value that gets placed on him. Probably more the latter than the former as the Tigers should consider any deal where they think they get more (future and/or current) talent in place of (current) talent.
  19. Harris managed to trade away Jimenez and Soto, solo inning artists, for potential everyday players. I don’t know if Carpenter gets traded. But you never who values what and for how much.
  20. Sure, Carpenter’s bat and cost are assets. At the same time, there are quite a few LHH OFs in or close to Detroit. Obviously Greene is the most well rounded of the bunch and that’s the guy to build around. All others have some flaw or another.
  21. A winter in Mackinac Island or Put-In-Bay or Petee Island (Lake Erie) would be pretty interesting. Did it freeze around Mackinac at all this winter? I would imagine there’s a fair amount of snowmobile/ATV traffic from island to mainland during the heart of a normal winter.
  22. In fairness to Baddoo’s defense, he had another really good play in Kansas City earlier this week and nearly had another one last night. In fact, he had the ball in his glove, was reaching with the throwing hand to cover it up, but I think instincts got the better of it and his left hand shot out to brace for the dive. Tough play, hell of an effort, it just kicked off of the heel of the glove. He has the speed that he should have the range. Throwing is an obvious problem and might always be. My untrained eye thinks the non throwing part of the defense is inconsistency. I don’t think the effort can be faulted. Everyone has different skill sets and degrees to which they have those and how much they can improve them.
  23. It'd be interesting to know what kind of return Carpenter would yield. The contradictory offense & defense can be tolerated for one DH type, but the Tigers have Malloy waiting in the wings and Baddoo on the team. He's a free agent after 2028 shortly after turning 31 years old. So he is controlled through the majority of his prime seasons. It'd be tough to part with one of the better offensive players from a wholly inept offense this season, but it might make sense to do so.
