  1. I am pretty sure most of the kids do both. I remember growing up caddy corner from the local high school and hearing them practice from time to time. In fact, every once in a while, they would practice their parade stuff by marching down the street. I don't know they got away with that, and it wasn't very often, but they did it.

  3. Along the lines of high school football, Toledo Central Catholic hosts Detroit Catholic Central tonight. I’m sure the announcers have no fears of being tongue tied tonight.
  4. Marching band season. My eldest plays clarinet. The band has around 120 kids this season. It’s down a bit from last season. But it’s a very good program and I’m happy she’s in it. My wife mentioned how she was out the door for school early and in a noticeably great mood last week which was their first football game. I happened to be home today and she was pretty happy this morning before leaving for school.
  5. I think they mentioned residual effects from illness. I kind of wish they went with Lipcius at 2B and leading off.
  6. We’re Tiger fans. That probably makes us stubborn by nature.
  7. Several factors went into the Dodgers’ move. A stadium squabble, improving transportation, and as you alluded to, an untapped MLB market on the west coast were several minor league teams had been very successful. LA officials had also discussed with the Senators. The Giants had also considered flipping to Minneapolis which was where their AAA team was based. Although I think it was the Dodgers that technically announced their move first, it might have actually been the Giants that did much of the wheel greasing to bringing MLB to the west coast.
  8. I’m not so sure about the winning part, at least on the field. Winning off of the field in terms of profit, sure. Winning on the field for most owners, whether it be the short game or long game (which might be harder to see), ok. But was Jeffrey Loria interested in winning on the field? I suppose for a small subset of owners, winning on the field (again, even long term) isn’t a primary objective. Or maybe their organizations are just not successful at accomplishing that goal.
  9. Easy on the haymakers. Lee is family.
  10. Stanford, Cal, and SMU to the ACC. Is it going to be awkward when the non football sports eventually realign into basically what the former conference alignments were? Or, even better, when the FOX Collegiate Football League and the ESPN Student Athlete Football Association break their respective memberships into geographical divisions which resemble the former conferences? Can’t wait for Allstate Championship Saturday presented by Budweiser. The AT&T Rose Bowl Presented by Elon Musk for the Doritos FOX Title and the Nokia Sugar Bowl for the ESPN Championship Belt Sponsored by Fan Duel which will be broadcast via Peacock.
  11. Hey moran, the game is in Chicago, not Detroit.

  13. I think between occasional games off and opposing LHSPs and if the DH spot is available for Carpenter, Vierling is going to get some decent time in the OF next season. I was in favor of the Vierling experiment at 3B. Its been fine, but I just don't think he's an everyday bat for this team, and he's a better OF than 3B.
  14. I'm not sure Baddoo returns. I'd release Ibanez and call up Lipcius in his place for the rest of the season. Ibanez doesn't have a future in Detroit. I don't know if Lipcius does or not, but time is starting to tick on him. He's essentially hit a full AAA season at a 281/.371/.424 clip with a 77 BB to 106 SO ratio. Play him at 2B, see what happens. And I'd make this move outside of the 2 expanded roster spots. I would assume one of those goes to a pitcher (which I suspect might be a bit of a fluid spot) and one goes to another position player (Kreidler?).

  17. I don't like this transaction, but it might be due to his White Sux hat on his bbref page.

  21. I thought there was a maximum of 13 pitchers on the active MLB roster?

  24. It was over 20 years ago and there was some sort of construction going on with the building when my wife and I went. But, we got there later in the day and the admission permitted us back the next day. So, we did do two days there, but an asterisk is applied. And to be quite honest, we didn't spend much time in the room with the plaques. I found that room boring and was more interested in all of the other memorabilia there. There was a replica locker with game used stuff from Trammell and Whitaker in it. There was a broadcasters area and Harwell was in it. The town was quaint. Obviously a lot of the smaller businesses are baseball related, but they are cool to wander into and check out to see their stuff. One thing we didn't do was go to see the field. Maybe it isn't a must see. But there were some older guys there dressed up in baseball gear heading down there. I suppose they had a game lined up. I don't now, maybe seeing an inning or two of an actual game while there would have added to the experience. Oh, and the pizza we had at Sal's down the street. I have no idea if it is still there or not, and even if it is, is the place the same? If we try a new pizza that's along the lines of New York type pizza (thin, foldable crust), one of us seems to mention a comparison to Sal's. So, take that for what its worth. Enjoy yourself there.
