  1. Nah, the dots are clearly dots. Their country of origin is less convincing unless they’ve been vetted.
  2. The problem here is that his stat line this season is one of the best 9 on the team. Now, granted, there’s more to being an everyday player than offense. But this is populated by only 5 bats with an OPS+ of over 90. Heck, Jake Marisnick’s 87 looks like a starter amongst this band of balsa wood bats.
  3. Who decided polka dots were Polish?
  4. Oh, yeah, CHiPS was must see TV as a kid. And by must see, it was you had to be in front of the TV at the time of the show and somebody had to actually turn the dial to the right channel (1 of the only 4 or 5 channels that you could get) in order to watch it.
  5. "The Beer That Saved Ballys' Financial Books" is going to be a best seller.
  6. He does a better job hiding his heater than Leyland ever did.

  8. Is it anything in particular that weighs too heavily or is it just an all around deficiency?
  9. I didn't mind it as much IF Carpenter saw the LF being lax the play. The throw was a wiffle ball out, it was actually at Carpenter rather than 3B. So, I think there was a little bit of fluke on the tag out because it was on the money when it wasn't on the money. The other thing is that these are both pretty brutal offenses but Wentz was on the mound. Advantage, Cleveland. So, Detroit had to take some risks somewhere along the line. As it turned out, they were basically shut out. Tough to assume Carpenter gets driven in from 2B with 2 out and bottom half of the lineup at the plate.

  12. Yeah, tough problem to have if a bunch of prospects hit at the same time, especially fi they are all good. I know this is a foreign concept, having a surplus of talent. It's not been seen in these parts in a long, long, long time. My humble suggestion, were it to happen, would be to trade to address other needs with the club. Does anyone disagree? Maybe move a prospect to Cleveland for their OF dimensions?
  13. I was at a reunion last weekend, the family was based around east of Cleveland. Its going to take some time to weed out some of the stubborn previous mascot holdovers.
  14. That there is an immaculate grid.

  17. Yes. I think I was thinking “twinight” doubleheader. Or was it “twilight”? Aw, screw it, win them both tomorrow.
  18. Officially PPD. I guess Short wasn’t fully rested to take the bump tonight. Traditional day/night doubleheader tomorrow starting at 4:10p according to the MLB schedule.
  19. No wonder it’s raining. The baseball gods are crying.
  20. That’s interesting. BABIP is virtually the same at home (.265) and on the road (.267).
  21. Agree with the catching gear and all of that. Plus the catcher is focused so much on catching a pitch whereas a fielder is waiting for the ball to come off of the bat. But we’ll have to disagree on the Tiger defense as a whole lately. It ain’t been good regardless of some fine individual plays.
  22. Start Shorty. Why do I have to come up with all of the good ideas?
  23. Is that the catcher's call? Haase waved his arms about as if he'd lost the ball, I'm guessing around when the ball was close to its apex. The problem is that Vierling is probably looking at the ball and not at Haase. They've got to audibly communicate there. I would think calling it should have been heard by the other, but I don't know. I think some miscues should be expected with Vierling for now. It's going to happen, he's getting used to new territory. OK, fine. The problem is that the rest of the defense has looked a bit ragged lately.
  24. Every time Torkelson gets into a heater, I think, OK, here he goes. And then the ensuing slump seemingly ends up not being a higher floor than before. Hopefully this is where he becomes more consistent as a hitter. Hopefully we're seeing another phase of the maturation process. As for Cleveland's bandbox, this is kind of interesting:
