Yeah, that's kind of where I was going with: At the moment, Kreidler seems to have the weakest batting line of the trio, although that ain't saying much. The depth chart is such where any of the three can be moved without creating an issue on the corners or up the middle. And maybe it makes sense to have Kreidler playing everyday in Toledo anyway. -

I'm confused. I think they are currently at 14 positions and 12 pitchers (Nevin up, Manning IL). Wentz down to Toledo for Lorenzen keeps it 14/12. I guess I am going with the assumption that they'll want to be 13/13, but it certainly isn't a mandate to do so. -

Speculation I heard is Wentz optioned down in order for Lorenzen to be called back up. But at some point a position player is going to have be moved for an arm. -

Dramatic hyperbole aside, the Tigers will be a better team if and when Baez plays like 2017-2021 Baez. -

Short start to this season, though. Semien & Seager were positives last season for the Rangers, Correa had one of his better seasons for the Twins. Can't ignore that production. But even with the good seasons, that's early in the contracts, and the ROI for the whole contract isn't justified solely by one season. We saw that with MartinezV's final contract, we're seeing that with Cabrera's extension. And Story definitely fits the cautionary tale. The FA spend of San Diego is something to look at in a few years. They've got a number of high dollar later in career liabilities in order to win now. That could be very ugly in the future. -

I record the game and then watch when I can. Last night I didn't start watching until a bit after 8. -

So, it’s interesting to me that the camera crews happened to catch Schoop stretching out in the dugout after this blunder. Was it just a coincidence? Good eye on the dugout and noticing a bit of unusual behavior from a bench player really early in the game? Good on Hinch for drawing a line. The home run trot out of the box might have limited the hit from a triple to a double (it was a weird ricochet off of the wall, so maybe it was only going to be a double anyway). But to be doubled off on a routine fly ball like that. I don’t think Baez is the true culprit of all the Tiger issues. He’s not lived up to the contract, sure. But I think a message needs to be sent to the entire team, and one way to do that is through one of its better players. The entire team need to pull its head out of its rump. If Hinch didn’t have their attention before, he’s got it now. Maybe they’ll still be out talented most nights, but damn, don’t make it easier for the opposition. -

Yes, we've got them around our house. They are quite beautiful birds. But they definitely do not play well with others as you mentioned. Philadelphia tried out the Blue Jays for a short bit. -
Pretty soon the Rays are going to have a winning streak that is larger than their paid attendance.

Sure, that's another option. There was a 2 run cushion. Keep Foley in and maybe even roll the dice on him until the winning run comes to the plate because he is a ground ball pitcher. Or maybe the line is even more situational, if Kiermaier gets on board make the change or maybe if he gets Kiermaier and Springer out, maybe you grant him a baserunner before making a change. Or maybe you draw the line at Bichette being the final batter for Foley one way or the other. Something along those lines. -

I don't know. It seems like the relief pitching market cascades into the late offseason. Maybe I'm wrong on that. But it seems like piecing together a respectable bullpen later is possible. The rest of the team, yeah, you're probably right. -

I disagree with both statements. Bringing Lange back in the 9th is a better risk to take than putting Wingenter out there. Give some respect to the context, Toronto had Guerrero, Chapman, Varsho due up. Its not like Lange is a slam dunk to get through that. But the odds seem to be better to do so by using the better pitcher. Hinch hasn't been as awful as everything else this season. He failed with the bullpen last night. But he also doesn't have a reliable bullpen to work with at this point in time. He doesn't have a reliable lineup to work with at this point in time. And not to totally remove blame from the team, but I think we also have to remember the competition is simply better than the Tigers at this point. Be it on paper and/or how its actually played out. This Tiger team is not good and they've been playing playoff caliber teams (save for Boston) on the road. -

I don't disagree with bringing Lange into the 8th as Springer and Bichette were due up 2nd & 3rd in the inning. Maybe the 8th should have been split between Foley and Lange to get through the 7th-9th. Or maybe Shreve gets included into that mix. Maybe there was a fear of pitching Foley, a ground ball pitcher to Kiermaier, a ground ball hitter with speed. But I think that or Lange for 2 innings (or including Shreve in there) is a better risk than Wingenter against the middle of the Toronto order. -

I think its worth noting a few of these are drunk sailor spending contracts. Cabrera's 2nd and Fielder's were largely at IlitchM's behest. Not sure if MartinezV's 2nd contract was also IlitchM's doing or not. You're right about ROI via FA. Generally there isn't a good ROI there if you're looking at it in terms of salary. But a good team isn't built solely on FA. The next competitive Tiger team is probably going to have to have a base of good young controllable talent with which to add FA to. The Tigers simply haven't done that in years. -

Disagree specifically with this game. I think Hinch has to have a pulse and go with Foley & Lang for more than a dozen pitches each to finish out the game. Not sure anyone else in the bullpen can be trusted at this point. Maybe Shreve. But, this team is in a 2-10 funk. Maybe you have to get out of the inning/reliever box in order to take a game. If it means neither are available for tomorrow, so what. Win this game tonight. Tomorrow might not call for closers anyway. But you're right on the larger point. They gambled that this group could be salvaged by Fetter and it just isn't working right now. I'm happy with the Jimenez & Soto trades, I think those were beneficial going forward. But as was mentioned elsewhere, there should have been some other moves made to backfill those roles (and Chafin's) from last season. -
