  1. Something else that we were pleased with last year was what a miracle worker Chris Fetter was. He was mentioned regularly in game threads. This year, not so often. .
  2. Yes that's my beef with tonight, he could have seized the win in the ninth with Lange, and bad teams desperately need wins. Any fool can fill out a lineup card for the 2017 Astros. But a manager of a bad team needs to throw the book away and do something creative to grab a win when it is staring you in the face, when it so rarely does so.
  3. Yes I think Billy Martin could make a difference with good players who were underachieving, in the short term.
  4. Right, there is no evidence, and never was, to suggest that he is anything other than replacement level. Or that any other manager is. I saw a John Gibbons interview tonight, he was asked what the most important key to success for a manager is, and he didn't hesitate: "Good players".
  5. Hey everybody, get your arm in shape and watch for the next tryout camp.
  6. I agree, but Hinch arrived at the bottom of the 9th with the game in his hip pocket, if either Foley or Lange, especially Lange, had gone 2 innings. Wins are too scarce to just piss them away and then let Hinch off the hook.
  7. I'm not letting Hinch off the hook. That was an easily winnable game.
  8. Good job Baddoo, last year he might have swung at those
  9. Did Javy just do some baserunning?
  10. Last year we were very pleased with the good bullpen management.
  11. Wingenter threw more pitches than Foley or Lange
  12. And a 4 pitch walk. Winning run at the plate
  13. Jays get the leadoff man on base.
  14. 16 games cuz then you just multiply by 10 to find out exactly how everyone will perform for the entire season.
  15. I'm surprised...I like the demonstration that if you play well you will get promoted, but this is a little quicker than I might have done it.
  16. I like Paredes and I hope he does well, but let's not send him to Cooperstown just yet. Last year other than an impossible 11 game streak in which he hit 8 home runs his results were pretty much exactly the same as his Tigers performance. He's off to a decent start this year but I would wait to see a full season of good performance. Count me among those who were pleasantly surprised that the Tigers got Meadows for him.
  17. Mud Hens is definitely the way to go, with the caveat that you've never heard of any of their pitchers. I'm not sure that even their family members have ever heard of them.
  18. That's what happens when you take a piss off your front porch, and stop to talk to your neiighbours while you were tapping off.
  19. Nice to get the KO on Manoah.
  20. Without looking it up I am trying to think of some '77 Blue Jays. I live within their media blitz zone so I should be able to get a few. Doug Ault, Alvis Woods,...Ron Fairly? Bob Bailor was taken in the expansion draft but they might have traded him. Rick Bosetti, Roy Howell, Otto Velez were there in the early years, maybe not the first year. Barry Bonnell?
  21. I'd like Nevin to stay in Toledo for a while. We know that he isn't going to keep hitting .600 but let's give him a couple of more 10 game blocks and see if he can stay in the high .800 OPS territory for each of those.
  22. Ha ha I remember reading a review at the time, Playboy probably, wondering what Helen Mirren was doing "slumming" in Caligula.
